Swim
Comments: Wanted to stay smooth and consistent, which I did. Seems the swim course may have been long as that time is relatively slow for me and also comparing to some of the Olympic distance swim paces. What would you do differently?: Learn to draft. This was only my 2nd race, so I am still not comfortable swimming in a group. Transition 1
Comments: Stepped onto towel and then pulled on the rolled up socks and cycling shoes, then threw on the glasses and helmet. What would you do differently?: 2nd in age group, so I was happy with this. Learn to ride without socks to help dry out feet during the bike to make putting the socks on easier. Bike
Comments: The bike was decent although I had a few problems shifting on some of the hills. Taping the gel to the seat tube was helpful as it was very easy to access. What would you do differently?: Need to train the bike more on hills to adjust gearing and recover faster. Transition 2
Comments: First flying dismount and I didn't fall!! Ran with the bike to my position, took off the helmet, threw on the shoes and out. What would you do differently?: Nothing. 1st in age group. Run
Comments: This is where I lost some time. I was not feeling that good and my pace seemed even slower than it was. Considering how I felt, I was pleased with the time. Would have been nice if Jim had set up some cones to seperate the out and back portions. Coming back in, I ran into several games of chicken. What would you do differently?: Figure out nutrition better to maintain performance. Post race
Warm down: Drank plenty of water and took in carbs. Last updated: 2008-08-26 12:00 AM

Woke up very early to drive down from Marietta. Luckily my wife drove so that I could catch some more sleep. Ate a Clif Bar, Propel, and some water about 1.5 hours before start.
Set up transition area and headed out for a brief swim. I'm very glad I did as my timing chip came off of my ankle with the first kick. Thank goodness for the neoprene strap!
