Doing what I do for a living I get the summers off and I get to play Mr. Mom all the time. Does it look crazy that I squeeze bike rides in on my tri bike while towing little chudley in his trailer?

It adds resistance and a lot of drag when you're against the wind!

Each time I've done it I feel really self conscience!! Should I be worried what others are thinking...specifically other tri guys?

(Bottom line, we have a deep motivation to look cool when we do things...guys anyways!)

You think, as dorky as we dress to do these races, that any of us is worried about looking cool?

Do what you need to, do what brings you happiness, and don't worry about what others think.

Especially not other dorky lycra-clad tri guys!

At my 5K this weekend, there were a lot of folks with strollers.  Most were guys.  Most of those guys were Marines.

So, if the Marines can run with strollers and be fast and hot, I wouldn't worry about biking with the little one in tow.

Since it wasn't mentioned, the only thing that I think (who cares anyways) is hoping that little chudley is wearing a helmet and you're riding somewhere relatively safe and not on a busy road.  I'm thinking playing safe is much cooler.

Head gear all around and the quiet country roads or loops in the park!

Safety is always the most important thing...it really freaks me out seeing some of the threads about our tri family members who are run down by what seems to be inatentive motorists. (Thanks for caring!)

I run with my two year old in a stroller all the time and he just loves it. He can't wait to hop in there and go. I can't wait to experience that joy and time together. I'd run in a monkey suit and still not care what anyone thought.

If I saw you doing that I would probably look at your bike first, because let's face it, when we meet somebody on the road we want to have the bike that is coveted.  Then I'd probabably think, "Man, I'm glad I don't have to haul around any kids yet."  "That looks tough."

Dragging the tykes around is pretty hardcore in my book.

Your yorkie wears your tri shorts? Now that's cool.

When I was in high school, I was very concerned about what people thought...now, it entertains me greatly when they give me funny looks!

Some of my best times training are when I get that "isn't she strange" look from the out-of-shape people munching on french fries!

My favorite one was last week when I was running during tropical storm Fay.  People were looking out their windows at me like I was a freak.  But, it was the best time to run here in Florida - finally less than 90 degrees.

Rock on with the little ones!!!  What a fabulous example you're setting for them & everyone else!!!

You are THE MAN!

I started taking our 1 year old daughter in a jogging stroller and a front bike carrier recenty.   She enjoys both and I get to spend an extra hour a day with her.   I don't know why any adult would think this looks crazy and most should appreciate the extra effort you're putting in as a parent.  I actually found it makes most passerbys happier as most give her a smile and wave.

Probably the only people wouldn't think you're 'cool' are the couch potatos who never get out!

The only way that gets better is if they are like firefighter-Marines running to rescue said-babies from eminent danger.  Triple HAWT.

To OP, do what you gotta do to get the miles in.  Better to go with the wee one than not at all!!  Any half-rational person will respect you for it more.

Ever since my kids were little, they went running with me in the jogging stroller, this gave the wife a chance to unwind and take a bath or whatever after being home with the kids all day.

Now, the boys are 7 and 8, they like to ride their bikes with me as I run. One of them in front of me, the other behind me. I call them my pace cars!

Keep them motivated and soon you'll be pacing them for their upcoming races!

I used to train all the time with my kids in a trailer behind my racing bike.  I felt like a Ferrari towing a U-haul.  But it was great resistance training, I got to talk to my kids during long rides (well, except on the uphills.  Then I just tried to breathe.  Towing the trailer made every little mill feel like a mountain!).

The best part is I recently lent the trailer to a friend who is going to start doing some tris with me.  So as I was double checking that it is still in good shape, I asked my kids (now 17 and 21 years old) if they remember going for rides in the buggy.  They both did, and both really liked it.  So I was also creating some positive childhood memories for them.

Oh, and although I do NOT want to be raising little kids again, I do sort of miss pulling them along when I see people with their kids in tow.  (Or maybe I am just checking out the trailer gear).

I couldn't get the twins to stay in the trailer, but they do love riding in the jogging stroller. They get laughs from the folks we pass when they say "faster daddy, faster!" (with daddy huffing and puffing to beat the band!)

Being very honest I definitely like the cool sexy aspect of Tri and bike racing. I like wearing my team kit and I like being on a hawt bike. I do enjoy the "image" and I'm not ashamed to say it.

However nothing is cooler than being out there with your most prized "possession" in tow. He will remember these times forever. I like to think I present a pretty cool image, yeah I said it but I am never so cool as when I take a back seat to my family...

I'll bet your kid thinks your cool...

It is ALL about looks....and in this case, it's becoming comfortable, knowing you look cool pulling the kid in his trailer.

High self esteem is a beautiful thing.

Isn't this a old groucho marx routine?  However, if you remove the dog from your pants you'll probably PR.

You should do whatever it takes. Pushing a jogging stroller or pulling a trailer is cool. Just keep it real with the speed when on the bike. :-)
