OK this thread is no good without some FSU jokes... What does UF drink to rehydrate when playing? Gatorade. What does FSU drink to rehydrate while playing? Seminal Fluid. (say it out loud) Actually the "rivalry" hasn't been that "great" for a while. When I was at FSU, UF wasn't our big rival. It was the 'Canes. And just a friendly reminder to the UF fans, since Bowden took over the program the series is 17-15-1 in favor of FSU. And Jamie you're right about the "total" points over the last 4 years, However... in two of those games your margin of victory was 7 points, (2004 UF 20 - FSU 13; 2006 UF 21 - FSU 14) I'm not saying FSU will be any better this year, nor do I think we will compete with UF, but you UF fans talk like you've dominated the series, and we all know that isn't true. Now regarding the "number of felons" comment...again you Gator fans have pretty short memories...Does the name Charlie Pell ring any bells with you? How about 107 NCAA rules violations...coming back at all? How about being stripped of an SEC title due to NCAA rules violations...anything...anything....oh wait...I'm sorry stripped of an SEC title twice... How about Galen Hall.....How many times has Florida been on NCAA probation for multiple major rules violations? I'm just sayin' those in glass houses.... |

Really, you're equating this with what occurred at UF under Pell and Hall. Under Charlie Pell there was wide spread institutional fraud. NCAA violations that the university, through the coaching staff knew about, participated in, and attempted to cover up...they were guilty of the big NCAA crime of "lack of institutional control". Their penalty was the loss of scholarships, the inability to particpate in post season bowl games, and being stripped of their SEC title two years in a row. Now on to the FSU case, FSU found out about the acedemic fraud, involved the NCAA as soon as they found out about it, invited NCAA investigators to be involved in the interviews, imposed suspensions on the student athletes that were involved. Suspensions that were later approved of by the NCAA. The end result is that numerous student athletes were declared inelligible for last years bowl game and the first three games of this year. So lets review...UF 107 "major NCAA violations" (that's the NCAA conclusion, not my verbage), loss of scholarships, loss of post season play, being stripped of Conference Titles. FSU, no "major NCAA violation", no lack of "institutional control", 22 players supended for 4 games, eligible for post season play, eligible for conference championship(Yeah we're eligible for something we have no shot at ), no loss of scholarships. What occurred at FSU last year isn't even close to what occurred at UF under Pell and Hall, and that is simply a fact, not opinion. |

So that's 19 years of clean football. How long has FSU been clean for? Six months? I'm not saying FSU is a clean program ( no major college program is, not in any sport), and we (FSU) still may catch some problems due to last years issues (If I were to bet I'd bet against it, and I'm sure Teddy Dupay could get me odds on that bet), but comparing UF and FSU on the "honesty" meter won't result in a Gator victory. UF has a very distinguished and Loooooonnnnggggg history of "compliance" problems, starting in the 50's with betting scandals and running all the way to recent allegations of recruiting violations. That's why I think it's funny when Gator fans start talking about problems at FSU. But that being said to save me some ink come November...."Wait till next year" That being said I predict the Gators go 10-2; FSU will go (at best) 7-5. (Oh and just keep in mind if you're a Gator fan or Georgia fan I have two tickets to both the Orange Bowl and National Championship game....I doubt I'll be using them) |

Agreed. I just don't know which games those two will be. Hopefully not Georgia (shudder), but prolly one or two that creep up on us. If we lose to Miami next week, I'm gonna curl into a fetal position and suck my thumb for a week - in between slugs from a huge bottle of rotgut bourbon. As for y'all - it's no fun to kick you when you're down. I have lots of FSU friends who are apoplectic right now about the state of FSU football - and rightly so. The fact that they're practically giving away tickets for this weekend's game...not pretty. Have fun this weekend! It really is the best time of the year.

But scUM...I hate them with the fire of 10,000 suns. I hate their colors (even though they were my high school colors), I hate their stoopid stork mascot, I hate their inept little band, their fans, their alumni (with two very limited exceptions...ok, Suzy Kolber makes 3), and the way they taunted y'all's kicker. I hate Brock Berlin, Randy Shannon, Jimmy Johnson, Vinny Testaverde, Jim Kelly, Michael Irvin.... deer lowered, I could go on all night. We'll try to take care of them next weekend, then y'all do your part, too, okay? These guys are fun to kick when they're down. :D

Master 2447 Marietta, Ga | Subject: RE: College Football Rivalry, Florida State vs Florida Jim, I seem to run into you everywhere these days. Yeah, FSU has stumbled upon difficult times. But, thankfully the expectations are low this year. It will be another difficult year of rebuilding. We already have 18 strong committments for returns in 2009. Gators, enjoy your high expectations. Just keep an eye out for those Seminoles, they'll be gunning for you very soon. And, to the discussion regarding convicts in football programs, don't throw stones in glass houses. Every football program is loaded with miscreants and ne'er do wells. Some get caught, some don't. Its not a good way to rate your program against another as your arguement is just one arrest away from getting undermined. Its gonna be a great season of college football. You Gators enjoy getting your arses kicked around in the SEC. The ACC is shaping up to stink this year, so we should cruise through the season. We'll see you in November. |

Elite 3201 South Florida | Subject: RE: College Football Rivalry, Florida State vs Florida I don't watch college football, I just wanted to throw in a cute story from this past weekend. I was at a labor day BBQ and some UM football players were there. They were the nicest, gigantic teddy bears you could imagine. They played in the pool with my three year old and sang country songs while my husband played guitar. But the cutest part was when they walked out, instead of grabbing a beer for the road or something like that, they each grabbed two cupcakes!
Oh, and they were #65 and #70 if you're watching the game next week. |
