We only save the nice residents.  The nasty ones get KILLED & FED TO THE ALLIGATORS down here.

Actually, we used to really protect the cool residents.  The others got called every hour for TOTALLY stupid sh*t.  SealedInnocent  Oh no, not me??!!

Never be mean to a nurse...we're vindictive! Innocent

My docs totally love me...they save me...I save them...it's all about the patients!

I have gotten in a few battles, though...once I lost...somehow it ended up for the best...that guy is still miserable in his little kingdom, recently had an MI...I'm running triathlons & working less hours making more $$.

Cream always rises to the TOP

Have fun during your research sabbatical - train hard & see you in Orlando!

Kim,

You should be able to use yours, I don't think mine is top line. Blackberry World Edition.  there should be a "micro SD" chip on the back where the memory chip would go do upload the songs onto your 'crackberry' after you download onto a memory chip just for phones.  Then some fancy ear phones and you are set to go!

Sounds like we have a run of medical folks comin!  I will warn the Contemporary staff!  sounds Great!

I will keep you updated closer too time,  I may be able to have someone from out of town stay with me if they like to help us all out.

Beginners through Ironmen/women.  It appears that a lot of people gather here.

The really cool thing, though is that no matter what your level of experience, no one seems to "talk down" to you.  There's a real sense of acceptance on this site.

I love it & wouldn't be where I am today without my friends on BT.  Robin is one - thanks girl!

Oh Sorry!  That was really tongue in cheek!  I am certainly grateful for the veterns of the sport!  How would be learn without you guys!  I, for one, have appreciated all the good advice and company on this site since I train alone.  Speaking of Robin, We just found out we live less than an hour apart! So I am excited to get to go over to 'her lake' and swim OW, all I have is a pool.  Not the same.

For all people who just started reading this site and are planning to come down for the race, be sure and read the 1st page and thread from Socks.  She details some of the race, and have some good points regarding it since she has done it before.

Party at Contemporary!!

Yes Danskin has swim angels at all their races.  There is info in their web page.  lso the Danskin website is entirely done by volunteers so its not usually timely.  Yes you can do it on a mountain bike....I have even seen beach cruiser with (I kid you not) baskets on the front.  No worries.  At the Disney race in the past they have and a limited # of rental bikes available.  I'd be willing to lend my trainer bike to someone (the bike Marcy/Dodgersmom used)  If I am around that weekend.  With all this commotion I either need to go be a swim angel again or just do the race.  Its a little bike tho only a 47cm.  Trek 2000 WSDroad bike with clip on aerobars.   IT mostly just sits on my trainer.  PRomise to get the majority of the cat furr off it if someone ends up using it.

Can anyone who has done this event before tell me how far into the biking is the no pass zone?

I downloaded the podcast for the 5k training. I am really excited about starting up! The music is a little to "Night at the Roxsberry"for me but maybe i can get used to it. I think I am going to supplement it into my current tri training. I would really like to run a couple of 5k's before the Disney tri so I will have some race day experience and know how I will do running in a group. Is anyone doing any open water swims yet? I was thinking I may try one before the water cools down to much, any thougths?

I did my first OWS a few weeks ago...during my first super sprint tri...It went fine, but I wish I had done a couple before race day.  I would have been much more comfortable and less nervous.  Now that I have done it I have been a couple more times, and it has gotten a little easier each time.  That being said OWS alone is very different than starting with a tri wave.

I've done 1 5k & have another this month.  I absolutely LOVE the atmosphere!  I ran faster & longer in the race atmosphere than I ever do on my own.  It's so cool!

OWS - ask Robin...it's my GREATEST fear.

I even wrote an article about it for BT:  The Creatures Are Not Going to Eat Me, Right?

Since that article, I regularly swim at our local springs - not OWS, but at least not the pool.  It's got little fishies in it & a REALLY deep area, plus, I can do circles without stopping to touch the wall, so endurance is really effected.  I swam in the Gulf once & in the Atlantic once.  Mild panic, but I do a lot better when people are around.

I'm sure I'll do great the days of my races!

My next OWS:  Lucky's Lake Swim 1K in a lake in Orlando - NOT a Disney Lake!

Lynne, There is great info about the race and no pass zones on the first page of this thread that Socks put up for us.  You should read the whole thing, very informative.

OWS, yeah, its the waves that I am sure are created with that many folks at one time.  My fear is I will get lost and end up in Key West before I know I was to get out of the water!!!

Tink -

Have you ever BEEN to Disney?  Girlfriend...this is about the most placid place to swim in Florida.

They couldn't have created a safer triathlon for us!  I wish I could have done this for my 1st.  By next year I may actually think of it as a race.

Well that is reassuring to say the least!  I am sure I won't get any OWS time before hand.  Too cold up here in winter.

I would like to ask a stamina question for all you veterns.  I am going to ask you to go back in time to the beginning of your training......my problem is I am afraid to completely max out on workouts thinking I will burn out and quit.  So I do the whole time like a good girl but don't get too winded, yesterday I biked 48 min/swam 24, but at a mod pace, afraid to would tire too quickly.  I can't find a happy medium on exertion.  Am I making any sense?  any suggestions?

Tink-  I'm sorry I may have been confusing when I referred to "tri waves."  I was referring to the groups of 50 or so people that start at the same time, not water waves...My understanding is that the lake we swim on is fairly calm...Sorry for the confusion (if there was any).  Starting with a large group often means having to encounter the arms, legs etc. of other people...Which for me is more fear provoking than the OWS itself.  But in the end if you just swim your race it turns out ok (at least so far in my experience)...over the course of a couple hundred meters people spread out a little and you find your space

Tink - Common fear!  Read my thread in Triathlon Talk entitled "Afraid to Peak..." It was earlier this week.  Some good advice from REAL veterans there.

About "waves".  There have been people literally knocked out & having their eyes blackened during swim starts.  It usually happens in the elite wave, (not a Danskin Tri thing).  Us weenies *YUP!  I'm a TOTAL WEENIE!  Check my times in the log!* probably don't have to worry about high elbows giving us black eyes.  This is why Danskin has swim angels & why tri's have life guards & kayakers monitoring the swim portion.  They really don't want anyone drowning - bad for publicity!

My 1st OWS tri is Oct 5th, I'll let you know if I get a black eye.

the no pass zones are maybe a 1/4 mile each way (out and back) The Danskin swim at disney is about the safest thing ever.  IF you are concerned about pace I would suggest getting a heart rate montitor and try using that.   Sally Edwards has written a very nice book on women in triathlon as well as trainign with heart rate zones. She is the spokesperson for Danskin and I think you can buy it on there site. FI not I think its call triahtlon training for women.  a Good read.  Almost any tri book you pick up can talk abotu training with HR zones and PRE.  Keep in mind heart rate training is a GUIDE and not an absolute.  FYI my race reprot from 2007 http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=75638

and 2005 http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=17671

I am still in, if I can figure out money and time. May is an awful travel month for me.  Ms Tink is in the process of moving and stuff. I think I have her phone and I am going to call her if she does not show up soon.
