Total Time = 2h 04m 56s
Overall Rank = 13/71
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 1/11
Pre-race routine:

Normal routine - Eat, drink, bathroom, and stretch
Event warmup:

long line checking bike in so only had time for a a short swim prior to event
Swim
  • 22h 34m
  • 1500 meters
  • 1h 30m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

We had a pretty small group the last wave so it cleared quickly and was a good open swim. Water was a good temperature but murky and a little slimy. Ran head on into some of the earlier wave and had to watch out for them.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, I was worried about the heat so I didn't want to push too har d on the swim. Turns out the cloud cover really helped the Temp.
Transition 1
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Had to run bike out and up a hill to mount. Where everyone was mounting was in the way of the sprint bike course and there was a lot of bike traffic.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on mounting bike with shoes clipped in.
Bike
  • 54m 58s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 27.18 mile/hr
Comments:

I was upset about it being so short and the crowd caused way too much braking but I still had a good ride. I saw one cyclist that had a flat due to the same thing that happened to me. He was still mad at the end of the race. Luckily no one was hurt but the potential was there.
What would you do differently?:

Work on the engine more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 27s
Comments:

There was a steep hill down into transition that I slipped a little getting off the bike. Seems everyone was doing the same thing though.
What would you do differently?:

good transition
Run
  • 46m 18s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran well, caught a couple and wasn't passed. Ran better up the hills than down. A lot of smiles out on the course, most of us were happy with the cloud cover:)
What would you do differently?:

run faster? Actually very happy with my run. I believe it was actually 6.2 miles too!
Post race
Warm down:

drank lots of cold water, waited for my wife to finish the run (she did the relay with 2 of her friends)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

crowd on the bike course but mostly me!

Event comments:

Race day was OK. Course was tough to get a handle on. Distances were off, the last 2 waves were almost locked out of transition(ran through pool area of Hotel), but race day came together fine. The finish line wasn't marked so people (including myself) ran right into where they were taking off the chips but there was a good crowd at the end.

Course: This course was NOT 25 miles. Best I can figure was around 18 per Google Earth. 5 loops with the Sprint doing 3 on the same course. 300 people doing the race so the bike course was way too crowded. There was a big downhill that I almost got wiped out on when a cyclist veered left for no apparent reason. She was doing about 25 and I was doing over 40. I hit the bumps in the center and almost bit it. Luckily no crash and no flat.

Course: Pretty hilly, part trail, part sidewalk. There was a large part of it that seemed like I was running on Mars, no vegetation, just dirt. Aid stations were great. Good cold water, nice people, and even Shot Bloks at one.
