Pre-race routine:

Woke up at me Grandma's got up shoved some food down, woke up my sister who was coming with me. Got ready and started the 35min drive to the race.
Event warmup:

Got in and swam to a buoy and back, felt pretty good. After that I just waited for my wave to go. Since the 20-24 AG, besides me of course, stinks we were in the last wave with relays and Athenas.. etc. While everyone else I cared about was 9mins ahead.

Comments:

Did it really take me 11 seconds to get out of the water and over the mat 5ft out of the water? I guess so, my watch read 8:08 when I was in thigh high water. Oh well. ;p

I lined my self on the front, but I started talking to a person next to me and next thing I know I'm a row or 2 back. The swim starts and I somehow get 3-4 people in front of me. I'm thinking wtf.. get out of my way. Luckly the first buoy was slightly to the right and they all went dead straight. This left a hole for me to blow by them, and I did. Rest of the swim was good, even found some good feet for the last 150m or so.
What would you do differently?:

Keep my spot on the line and in the start!

Comments:

I thought I would be 38ish on the bike here, but I'm not upset with my time. I put what I had into it and that's all there was. Guy who won only beat me by 8 seconds on the bike. A girl out split both of us by another 20 seconds though. Ouch. :)

Mostly cross winds with a tail wind on a bit and of course a head wind going back on that part. Pretty windy, but kinda expected when on the coast. Bike splits overall were a bit low I think. The roads are bumpy, but they are the same every year. ;p And guys who have gone 1mph faster here were slow today.

Only problem I had was when we're coming over the bridge for the 2nd time. It's a big bridge and steep, took me down to 12-13mph, so don't think 'just a bridge' it's a mountain to us :). On the 2nd pass my gears screw up and start shifting on their own for some reason. I shift down to the gear I was in and just really had to crawl my way up that bridge, gave up some time there and wasted more effort than I would of liked.
What would you do differently?:

Nada, I dosed my effort well. Just a bit slow for whatever reasons. :)
Transition 2
  • 00m 31s
Comments:

Haha, when I did my flying dismount someone went.. Ohhh that's a good dismount!

I giggled on the inside.
What would you do differently?:

Shoe got a bit jammed when I went to put it on, so I suppose put it on better. :P
Run

Comments:

Well I may of still had the fastest run there, but it was certainly not a good run. I had 5:50s in me I'm pretty darn sure. But I came to mile 1 aid station on pace and feeling confident. I asked for water to just toss on my head since I hydrated great on the bike and didn't need any more. They gave me Gatorade and for some reason I didn't want to waste it so I drank it. about half a mile later I got a real bad side stitch that ended up making me slow down to a jog to get rid of it. Shortly after Mile 2 it was completely gone and I got back on the pace.

Not a huge deal, but when you lose Over All by 30 seconds, it becomes a big deal. :) Also wish I wasn't 9min behind Chris, if I had seen him 20 seconds ahead of me at the half way point I think I would of gone through those side stiches... well maybe. They did hurt pretty good. Even without out them Chris may of won, just would of been a bit closer. :) Woulda, coulda shoulda huh. :)
What would you do differently?:

Don't freaking drink when I know I don't need anymore liquids in me.
Post race
Warm down:

Me, Chris and another guy jogged the run course again.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being stupid.

Event comments:

Great little local race, one of the best sprints around here.

It must of been years of being told "don't waste" that had you drinking that Gatoraide.  It's hard to break some old habits .  Congrats on a great race!
