Not sure if anyone has seen this month's outside magazine (Hawaii cover), but inside there is a picture of a bamboo bike by craig calfee. That thing is frickin cool! I found a picture online, see below.

Very cool. I'd ride it.

If you go to China, you'll see scaffolding 20 stories high made of bamboo. At first its a little surprising but I guess its very strong.

He just won the Handmade Bike Show in Houston for People's Choice.   Here's a little from that article and a picture of the bamboo bike that won.

"Calfee showed off a new frame material, with a bamboo bicycle. It’s probably the most impressive thing we’ve seen built from bamboo, after the radio the Professor built to tune in broadcasts on Gilligan’s Island. But unlike that piece of non-functional set dressing, Calfee’s bamboo bike is the real thing. Carbon overwrap joins the tubes together, creating what Calfee claims is a ride that’s second to none. The bamboo bike had not only been ridden, but raced and even repaired—but it’s unlikely to replace carbon as Calfee’s stock in trade."

Looks nice, but I heard it had a "wooden" ride to it. Give me real metal any day.

I dunno, constant wood on a bike sounds uncomfortable...
