Overall Rank = 14/192
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 4/21
Pre-race routine:

Woke up earlier than any human should ever wake up to exercise and loaded up tritruck. Ate waffles with peanut butter and honey (new pre race meal, and quite tasty) and made an eight shot espresso with half and half. This was my I don't give a flip about what this does to me later, I just need to wake up.
Event warmup:

Get to transition, set up, walk to the water and talk with Jenny about warming up. Never actually warm up.
Swim
  • 08m 43s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

This swim was weird because it was my best 100M avg in an open water event, but I didn't feel like it was a good swim at all. Possibly because of no warm up, but my stroke was fast and I was expending way more energy than I wanted to swimming. When I got done I was completely winded. Ran up the ramp and saw hogans and buehler and laughed after I went by. I had to look beat down.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up.
Transition 1
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

I took my time because of how I felt. Got to the mount line and took off. I could not get into my shoes.
Bike
  • 41m 41s
  • 16.78 miles
  • 24.15 mile/hr
Comments:

Went out of the park recovering and took the RT to get out on the fast part of the course. At about mile 2, I could hear my front brake rubbing a little on my wheel. It wasn't slowing me down any so I decided not to stop, then at about mile 8, I hear what sounds like my front wheel is coming apart. I look down and see my entire brake dangling against my wheel. So, I pull over to the side and check out my bike and try to figure out how hogan was able to sabotage the kueen k during the official bike weigh in, but quickly refocus and realize I can just throw the cable over the aerobars and move on. SRM showed a 35 second pit stop. Once I got going again, I felt great and managed to catch about 4 or 5 people before getting back to T2.
What would you do differently?:

Bike tune up???
Transition 2
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

good T2.
Run
  • 22m 14s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt really good on this run. Don't know why I faded on mile 2, but on mile three, I was able to pick it up and finish strong. Goal was 21:41, and I probably could have done it, if I had any clue as to where I was on my run time. Need to do something different there.
What would you do differently?:

Something, but I don't really know what. Don't like the big clunky garmin during races, so I wear a polar and hit the lap button at each mile to see my pacing. But, I don't know where I am on total run time and the last thing I want to do is try to add minutes and seconds together when my entire body is one electrolyte away from complete shut down.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some Gatorade. Talked with Lora from swim class (congrats on your race and 2nd place finish by the way). Saw Jenny coming out of the swim and gave her a shout that I am sure inspired her to at least a 3 second faster T1.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just the quick pit stop.

Event comments:

Good race. Militant Jack runs a good race, If they created a little better atmosphere, more people would do his events. Maybe they all sell out anyway, I'm just sayin...

crapola you can fly on that bike,, I barely hit those speeds going down hill.. Talking about a warm up is all that is needed.. I'll be addressing that in my new book.. Worthless advice for twenty bucks

The best part of your race was TH getting chewed out, by Jack, for cheering too loudly for you. Very speedy race, even with the unscheduled bike repair.

Fasttoad needs to be fasttard!  Maybe it is that uni that makes you so fast in the water!  Wow- you were SUPER FAST in all 3 elements.  Congrats on a great race!

BTW - if your goal is 21:41 for the 5K,  that is a 6:58 pace.  If your first mile is 7 min mile, your next should be 6:56 to make up for the 2 seconds over, and so on to figure the pace without the Garmin.  just saying.................

Nice race! I'll be happy to make sure your brakes aren't rubbing (much) at Longhorn.
