Fall Frenzy Triathlon
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 19m 49s
Overall Rank = 131/550
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 6/11
Pre-race routine:

Since the race started later for Laura and I we slept in a little. Once we finally got moving, I ate the traditional banana and packed everything into the Escape. I tried not to think about the race very much since I had never swam in a race before, so I didn't want to overthink it. Once we arrived at the Rec Center that it was being held at, we discovered that we were going to have to park at a nearby store and walk to the transition are. We quickly got our areas set up and headed into the pool area, where I quickly got in line and found a group of swimmers to share a lane with.
Event warmup:

Only if you count the walk from the store to the transition there wasn't any.
Swim
  • 10m 53s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

After standing in line for about 50 minutes or so, I finally got to get in the pool. After discussing it amongst my lane mates we decided that I would start 4th based on my predicted finish time. Well within the first 200 yards I ended up passing the guy that started before me. I did get passed by the two men that started first, but that was expected since their predicted times where a 2 minutes faster than min. My predicted time was 12 minutes, my fastest time for this distance before now was 11:45, so I swam extremly well and am ery happy with my time.
What would you do differently?:

Absolutly nothing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

I am not very good at this, but my practice time does not exist. Everything went as well as I could hope for. Seperated from te T1 time was the run distance from the pool door to the transition area which was
What would you do differently?:

Practice, Practice, Pratice!!!!
Bike
  • 39m 40s
  • 11.75 miles
  • 17.77 mile/hr
Comments:

Though a tuff course, it pushed my abilities to there max. My breathing was sporadic at best since I was freezing and winded from the swim. It wasn't till the last 2 miles or so that I regulated my breathing.
What would you do differently?:

I really need to start riding the bike more, to increase my ability.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

I was dizzy during this process so I rested my head on my bike seat to keep from falling over while I changed my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Again, I need more practice.
Run
  • 24m 3s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

I was really hurting and couldn't get a good pace, till the turn around. Once on the way back I was well withing the comfort of running that I normally feel. I felt like I ran a lot worse than I actually did, but I would rather not feel so tired running.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get more brick training in. I get plenty of running miles and am very comfortable running, but am not used to my legs being tight and heavy when I first start my run.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked into the pool to see if I could find Laura in the pool, but she wasn't there. So I walked up to the transition area and here bike was gone. So I dug the camera out of here bag and waited so I could take pictures for her coming back from the bike. After she finished, we walked around a little, then got food and found some shade to sit in for the awards and raffles.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I did not train nearly as hard as I could have. Being my first tri, I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but the next time I will no longer have the ability to use that excuse.

Event comments:

The overall race was good even though I was skeptical after the packet pickup yesterday. I feel that this was a good tri to use as my first tri.

Congratulations, Triathlete!  Great job today and sounds like you learned a few things along the way and know where to set your training goals for the next one.  That's what it's all about... triathlon, that is... not the hokey pokey .

Congrats! Sounds like a great first experience. I love the idea of resting your head on the bike seat - Glad you got to go out and get pics of Laura, too - what a great supporter!

Congrats on your first tri!  I remember my first one.  I was on an old tube shifting Italian bike.  Anyway, sorry I didn't formally meet you.  Were you to my right?  Tattoos on your arm?  Nice race.  are you hooked now?

You rock.  I knew you would do great, though that speedy, strong swim was even more impressive than I envisioned!  Woo hoo!  (Aroo!)

WOOP, WOOP.....

Way to go TMAN! I knew you would have a great race, but laughed when I read you had to put your head on your seat as to not fall over.

I've never done a pool swim. do you have to duck under each lane line etc and zig zag down each pool lane?

I guess I should start calling you TRIMAN now!!

congrats!
