Fall Frenzy Triathlon
80F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 58m 49s
Overall Rank = 2/500
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 1/46
Pre-race routine:

Michele and I got to sleep in since her wave went off at 10:40 and mine was at 11:30. So we got in a quick bike at home, ate breakfast, packed up and left at 9 A.M.
Event warmup:

Warmed up for about 10 minutes on the run with Michele and then headed to the pool. Saw Ray Raise99 and zev/ zdog at the transition. THanks for working as a volunteer Ray!
Swim
  • 08m 20s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Damn was I slow. 86th overall. I guess the aquaphor kit and not shaving my legs slowed me down. I was lapped by 2 other swimmers in my lane and I just felt slow so I swam as hard as I could. THe time on the race posting said 8:40 but I had to run out the pool door to get my final swim time so I was 8:20 out of the water. Damn I was slow.
What would you do differently?:

Well it was a pool swim, what can I say.
Transition 1
  • 00m 43s
Comments:

First fastest overall, not to bad.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 28m 53s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 23.89 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride. I started hard but had to pass a slower guy on the bike path, that cost me 2nd overall by 1 second. Only 8 seconds behind the overall winner who is an ex pro! Got into a groove and just concentrated on pushing as hard as i could. Passed lots of people. Saw my wife at about mile 2 and told her she looked strong! Pushed hard up the 2 small hills and headed into T2. One of my better rides I believe.
What would you do differently?:

Not ride 93 miles the day before. But this was a prep race for IM.
Transition 2
  • 00m 38s
Comments:

Fastest overall!
What would you do differently?:

Nada.
Run
  • 18m 51s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run for me on tired legs. I started hard and jsut pushed hard the whole time. At the turn around I went harder. i was at 10 minutes at the turn and wanted to break 19 minutes. Sprinted at the end.
What would you do differently?:

NOthing
Post race
Warm down:

WAtched michele finish and told her to push hard.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

93 mile ride and a brick run of 45 minutes at 7:30 pace. IM training is most important right now.

Event comments:

Great local race put on by Myron! Met FF stock, saw 3sportthing and zev and ray. Met a new BT'er dan! Got a Fat tire cycle jersey for 2nd place. Cheered on everyone as they got there awards. Michele was 2nd in her age group. Her swim was 11:28 and the winner had a 7 minute swim. She only lost by 30 seconds! Great day!
