Piranha Sports
83F / 28C
Sunny
Total Time = 5h 29m
Overall Rank = 85/283
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 4/9
Pre-race routine:

ate banana and half english muffin with peanutbutter, tried to drink full container of G2
Event warmup:

quick jog, stretched a little.
Swim
  • 34m 50s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

swim felt really good, sighting yellow buoys on way out was easy, but sighting orange bouys on way back was difficult due to having the sun right in your face. pond was clean, even after hurricane hanna the previous day.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

T1 was quick- had trouble finding bike, cause i was a little dizzy. Run from swim finish to transition area was 0.4miles, so a quick change into sneakers after getting out of the water helped.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 2h 54m
  • 56 miles
  • 19.31 mile/hr
Comments:

not a bad course for the bike leg. however, due to the hurricane the day before, as the day went on, there was a stong headwind/tailwind on the loop, making avereage speed drop to 17mph (ugh). tailwind picke up average speed to about 22mph. lesson: don't race after a hurricane.;)
What would you do differently?:

nothing--nutrition--took in 600 cal on bike between shot blocks, one accel gel, and cytomax. threw up a bit of it (guess i was trying to get too much down at once). but overall good bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

a little trouble finding transition rack spot again.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 58m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

was happy with the run. found a few running buddies along the way to keep pace/comapny. started out withan 8:20-8:30 pace, but it dropped to around a 9:30 the last 3 miles. good run!
What would you do differently?:

nothing, perhpas have one more accel gel for the last few miles
Post race
Warm down:

walked, stretched...drank champagne (my first HIM i have to!!!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

honestly...i think my bike would have beet a lot better without a headwind (pace would have been a little steadier) bt that's mother nature!

Event comments:

After some confusion where the bike course was going to be shortened, race director was able to work with police/county to get the full distance back. they did run out of water on the bike leg for some racers though. need more volunteers, but they've advertised for that. next year, perhaps I'll help instead of race...but for a first timer, this was a great HIM to start with!

Nice job today. Your "hannawho" username is appropo given the fact that I did diamondman because TS Hanna caused my originally scheduled HIM (Patriots on 9/6) to be cancelled. It's also appropo because you did each discipline about 10% faster than me, and therefore I never saw you once!!!!Sorry we didn't get to meet... you had a well executed race for sure!
