i currently use a nike triax hrm, however after 6 months of use, even while during hard workouts, my hr on the watch remains in the 80s..obviously incorrect. is this due to a low battery, any suggestions?

I'm no expert at this and will not pretend to know what might be wrong. But -- are you sure you have it set on heart rate and not on percent of Max heart rate? That's my one and only idea <img align='middle' src='https://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/images/emoticons/surprise.gif'>

trilori,
Need a bit more information, but I will make some assumptions.

If this just started happening in the last day or so, I would change the battery to start.
Walgreens has a really good selection that fits HRM's I have found.

Has anything changed where you store your HRM (heat or cold extremes?). If so, something could be fried.
Also, to increase conduction you might want to spread some KY Jelly on the 2 little transducer areas on the strap before you put it against your skin.

If none of those help I would check your warranty.......

Let us know what you find out.

If you are going to try changing batteries, go to a jewler. I got a battery changed for free just for signing up for a credit card. The many pieces of that card are now in a land fill, and I got a new battery profesionally installed.
If you are thinking about sending it in for warrenty, many warrenties are void if the battery is changed by anyone but the company.

Another point of referance is what is around you?
Depending on the model of your Triax, If you are working out at the gym, the HRM on the treadmills and stationary bikes may be affecting the signal, as will other people around you using monitors.
