Such juicy subjects and witty posts...

Guns vs. tattoos: you gotta love it no matter which side you come down on.

Count on JB to start a thread that generates 3 or 4 pages overnight and still doesn't answer the debate.

An IronMan handgun; now that would be awesome,,, your gun buddies and tri friends would be equally impressed.

These types of topics just never seem to go away.  I personally wouldn't want a tattoo to begin with, and certainly not one of a brand.

Also, are you doing a 70.3 race or an IM for yourself and personal satisfaction, or ar you doing it so you can tell the world "Look at me, I did an Ironman/70.3"

As a lawyer, maybe I should have a Bar Association logo on my body. :-)

Can I get an Olympic Rings tattoo for finishing an Oly?    Just fueling the fire this morning...haven't finished my coffee yet.

If tattoos are meant for successful finishes, I should have a large Icehouse tattoo, with oak leaf clusters.

By the same token, I'm seriously considering getting that Felt bike that's in the classified forums for the almost exclusive reason of painting it blue and putting Dillon Precision stickers on it. I feel weird having my bright red Felt sitting beside my Dillon press. Might have to get the Lee out and have a blue Vs red training setup thing going

OK, I won't tough the tat v no-tat debate, but c'mon, Dillon SMOKES Lee hands-down.

Don't get me wrong, I have some Lee dies and tools, but Lee makes nothing that compares to my Dillon for loading thousands of .223 and handgun rounds with match-grade precision.

Red side of bench... blue side of bench. It's a symmetry thing. I could park each bike beside the appropriate press, that's why I would break the Lee out.

Considering Jonny's (JBrashear) other posts (see I am Shiva) what other items should be branded with the IM logo?

I'm thinking:

1.  Port-o-potties

2.  Travel size toilet paper

Chamois lube
Body Glide
IM Ice bath kit
Pasta for one triathlete (or two normal people)
anti-acids
nose plugs (I'm not sure these don't already exist)
ear plugs

I was asked the other day by some non athletic lady if my red M-Dot tattoo stood for Michigan State (she was blonde and pretty clueless) (wait that is redundunt

Go figure.    Also was asked at a 50K trail race if it stood for Marathon Maniac (and this was asked by a runner).

Oh well, life goes on....

I just laugh at the people that think they are selling something or advertising for the company..

I'm sure the people you pass in the grocery store are going to see a mDot on something and immediately go out and attempt to register for a race that is already sold out and sells out in hours or go buy some merchandise with a mDot on it

that really cracks me up

Isn't that how Kenny got started in this?

I like my gun like my cars, German made. H&K .40 USP for me.

I'd say go for it. It's your body, you shouldn't let other opinions stirr you differently than the way you truly feel. Be your own man.

Oooh - going for that era allows you to argue that it is not an M-Dot but rather a MAUDE-dot.

Getting this tat is apart of the appeal and drive to complete my first IM. To answer the OP question - I think if you are willing to tell people that the mdot on your body is for a half and not a full - that is your choice. I personally would not want to explain to another triathlete that it was for a half (nothing against finishing a half).

Hey it is your money and your body if you want to get a version of the IM tattoo then get it.  Don't worry about every one else says.  If it isn't a sanctioned IM event it doesn't matter 70.3 is 70.3 no matter who sponsers it.  Here is what Im planning on getting since I finished my HIM in June.

Is it considered bad form to use the M-Dot tat for completing a 70.3?
....do people do some variation of the M-Dot for 70.3?

Yes.
Yes.

No way!  There isn't anything wrong with using the IM dot in some sort of fashion for completing an HIM.  Who says it is just for a full IM? Did IM hire you to be the IM Dot Police?    HA

I'm completely with Mr. Fleeb on this one.  If you do a 70.3, then get a 70.3 tattoo.  That is a hell of an accoplishment and if you want to show it off, then do so.

But, I wouldn't want to go around explaining to the world, when someone asks, "Did you do an Ironman?".  The eternal response will be, "No, I did a half Ironman".  I'll guess that most folks will say, "oh, I see", thinking to themselves, "pretender".  It immediately devalues your real achievement, which is the completion of a 70 mile race.  The subject of the conversation changes from your suffering and training to complete the 70.3 to the fact that you only did half of a whole Ironman.

I (me) did not put an Mdot on anything I owned until I'd completed a 140.6 race.  It's the same as wearing the race shirt before you've crossed the finish line.  There's gotta be some sanctity in not wearing the badge until you've earned the honor.

But, you get to do what you want.  In my opinion, it becomes an issue of character.
