FEBRUARY 16 - Ending months of speculation – and underscoring what Oprah fans already knew - Lance Armstrong announced Wednesday he will start the 2005 Tour de France and make a run for a seventh consecutive maillot jaune. The six-time Tour champion outlined a partial racing schedule that also includes a return to the Tour de Georgia in April at the expense of the Ardennes spring classics. “I am grateful for the opportunity that Discovery Communications has given the team and look forward to achieving my goal of a seventh Tour de France (victory),” Armstrong said on his official web page paceline.com. Since winning a record sixth Tour, Arms...

That's great news, particularly that he'll also be running the Tour de Georgia!  That race ends here in Alpharetta!

I didn't get to Columbus in time to catch the Tour de Georgia when it came through last year.  But, you can bet you're sweet bippy that I will road-trip to see at least one of the stages of this year's event!

I really wish I could see a stage of the Tour de France but I'll have to wait some other time.  Go Lance Go!

That sound you just heard was the TDF organizers breathing a sigh of relief. And anyone who can make it to TDG or TDF all I can say is do it! My wife and I were fortunate enough to go to France last year and watch 3 stages in person. Nothing beats watching these guys live.

I am a Lance fan - well, at least an admirer, but I have to say his conduct at the Tour de Georgia last year was disappointing. He didn't sign any autographs - went straight from his bike to his trailer and never surfaced again. I understand at the Alpharetta thing they made a big deal about bringing all the cyclists on stage, then announced "Lance Armstrong!" and he kinda walked across the stage and sat down without acknowledging the crowd. The other riders were kinda standing there like, "is that how you are going to respond to a nice round of applause?" I can only assume he was burned out from being a little overexposed - still, there were some disappointed fans.

Does that mean its the first weekend in April?

TDF - July 2-24

Kona - October 15

He's referring to the speculation (hope?) that Lance will go back to his roots and race tris again.

Now what is happening the first weekend of April?  Tour of Flanders April 3, Tour of Georgia April 19-24...

I'm bummed!  Lance Armstrong will be minutes from my house as he finishes (and probably wins) a cycling event here in Alpharetta, Georgia, and I won't be there to watch it.  It is the same weekend as the St. Anthony's Oly Triathlon and I'll be down in St. Petersburg, FL.  What luck.

I'm a cheap bastard, but I'd be tempted to pay the $95 for the VIP pass for the grand finale.
