Swim
Comments: Started off great. Better breathing performance than Wild Dog. Form never really broke down and this swim turned out to be a PR for this distance...the conditions were perfect. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: Smooth and easy transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Good mount coming out of T1. Got up to speed pretty quick and knocked off a bunch of folks out of the gate. Small inclines coming out of the park got the heart rate up (it would stay high all race). First loop was pretty quick although things slowed down a lot on the hills at the end of the first loop. They are pretty hateful (for me). First day riding with the aero helmet. I probably looked like a goober but it makes a difference considering the wind brake I was riding with before. What would you do differently?: Can't say I would do all that much different. Bike was pretty fast considering the course. Transition 2
Comments: First flying dismount. Goofed up my shoes but was able to recover well in time before dismounting. Very smooth and easy and passed a few people in transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: AWFUL. Poor height/weight ratio strikes again. The race was pretty much decided at this point but with any type of run I could have seen the podium. Inclines are not my friend right now. Heartrate was still banging from the bike and I was really not able to get relaxed until almost mile 2. Given the fact that the first half of the run was uphill I am not surprised. Last mile was the fastest by far and I was able to hold on for a nice kick at the end. What would you do differently?: Nothing...bitter. Post race
Warm down: Water and a cooling off swim in the lake (sweet). What limited your ability to perform faster: Weight. Event comments: I should title this report "the bitter report." Taking RI 70.3 out of the analysis, this race showed how much I need to get down to a competitive weight against the taller clydes. Still in the mid/high 220s and it really makes a difference (5'9" on a good day). Bike could have been a couple of minutes faster...run could have been A LOT faster. Major bright spot was the swim. As wifey reminds me, I can't complain about the result and especially about the results that triatlon has given me this year. Still down 50 pounds and counting since last November.
