Georgia Multisports
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 32m 30s
Overall Rank = 52/463
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 4/8
Pre-race routine:

Spent the night in Lavonia the night before, for some reason didn't hardly sleep a wink. Got up at 5 and ate a Power Bar and packed up, headed to race site.
Event warmup:

Usual transition set up and piddle around. Got in the water for a 5-10 min. warmup before the start.
Swim
  • 26m 53s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not really sure, longest swim I have done in a race so I have nothing to compare it to. This is my favorite part of the race usually, so I enjoyed it. Definitely wore me out though...
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Transition 1
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Long run to and out of transition, but fastest in my AG so I am satisfied.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 45s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 19.89 mile/hr
Comments:

This bike course ate me alive. I felt like the first 10 miles of the course were uphill and into the sun. I tried to take it easy because I knew it was going to be really tough for me but the hills still got me. Got passed a lot.
What would you do differently?:

Keep trying to build a solid base on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

I am satisfied.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 44m 21s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

This was also the toughest run course I have experienced. My original plan was to take the bike somewhat easy and hammer the run. Well the bike kicked my ass and the run just finished me off haha. My legs really just weren't there. I think the heat was really starting to get to a lot of people, myself included.
What would you do differently?:

Work harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank bottles and bottles of fluids.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of race experience.

Event comments:

This was my first Olympic distance and I learned a lot today, but more or less this course really just chewed me up and spit me out. My lack of bike skills is discouraging even though I am still a rookie. The bright side to a race like today is coming out here and getting my ass kicked like that just makes me want to work that much harder. Even though this race got me good I still had a good time and it's fun to see familiar faces from other local events.

Great Race - I raced Tugaloo today as well and was amazed at how hilly the run and bike were. You did great - nice work..

Yeah the hills were definitely expected.  This course is known as a beast.  I think it just quickly became a reality =)

Jon, you nearly averaged 20 mph on the bike and 7min/miles on the run in your first race at this distance.  That is awesome.  You will only be faster next year.  Podium, here you come.

Great race. You killed that run. Great job. Excellent swim time as well. Definitely some podiums in your future. Keep working. Tugaloo is a tough course.
