Still don't understand quite how the transitions will work for the half ironman at Beach 2 Battleship.

Can anyone provide a quick summary.

BUMP

I don't have my arms around this, either..I checked out the FAQ on the website and it seems like they have stuff pretty well figured out but still couldn't work out a couple of things:

If there's no transportation at the end of the race back to T1, what's your best bet for car dropoff Sat. AM? I know there are taxis but would just as soon not..

Will the stuff you take off when you come out of the water, wetsuit/goggles, be following us to T2 at the Battleship in the changing bags, or is it just understood we need to plan on heading back to T1 after the race?

The way I understand it is that there will be busses leaving from downtown/battleship to take people to the start. Each racer will recieve a buddy pass that they can give to someone to allow them to get your stuff from the swim transition area. There are no shuttles back to the swim start after the race, you are on your own. So if you have someone coming to watch you, they could go back and get your stuff at the beach, saving you the trip later.

It seems like they're doing this in the same way they do their point to point Over the Mountain race.  You get a few additional bags.  One for warm clothes to wear before the event that you'll leave at the swim start (similar to other IMs).  You leave that in a pile at the swim start.   You'll have another bag at T1 where you'll leave your wetsuit & other swim stuff.  They'll transport both bags back to T2 with the rest of your junk.  Your spot at T1 should be empty when you start the bike.

NickInNC - 2008-10-22 8:17 AM So if you have someone coming to watch you, they could go back and get your stuff at the beach, saving you the trip later.

Except I don't think anyone without an athlete bracelet can remove stuff from T1.

Here's what I'm doing: parking at the parking deck at the Hilton race morning and taking the bus to T1 (you have to make a reservation using th eemail listed in the booklet). Then, after the race, taking a water taxi across th eriver to th eHilton, pick up my car and head out to the beach to get my bike.

ETA: except I guess my bike will be at T2. So, I guess there's no need to go back to T1 at all.

From what I can tell there will be no reason to go back to T1 unless you parked a car there. Everything will be transported to the race finish for you.

I'm assuming it was a typo on the latest e-newsletter that said water taxi's are running from 10 am to 1 pm - I am hoping that was supposed to say 1 pm?  Anyone have family / friends going out on the bike course to cheer?  I would love to get out there but don't want to drive on the course - anyone familiar w/ the area that knows of an alternate route to a good spot on 421?

I'm hoping we can find a good spot on the lake to cheer for the run too - any thoughts?  (my husband is doing the full)

I hope it's gonna be ok to take bikes on the water taxi..It's not that far from downtown across the river to the Battleship but would prefer to not have to drive back to retrieve my bike.
