Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Got up on time, heated up my bfast (1 egg + 1 white on english muffin). Didn;t have anything to drink in the car or before the race (MISTAKE!)
Event warmup:

walking back and forth to the car!
Swim
  • 42m 23s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was raining cats and dogs for part of it so sighting was tough for a bit and the end buoys were read and were kind of hard to see. All in all once I got into a rhythm and kept to the outside I was feeling good. Towards the end the faster people caught up and were crashing into me a bit which threw me off.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. All in all it was fine.
Transition 1
  • 05m 6s
Comments:

I had to re-apply my blister band-aid and I spent some time getting my Gu packed up. Since it was raining my area was stacked on top of itself and covered in a plastic bag so it took some time getting it re-organized. Plus I wanted to take some time to make sure I didn;t get dizzy after being in the water so long (I was fine).
What would you do differently?:

Next time I'll know better what to expect. I probably should have practiced transitions for this race because it was different than I'm used to. Also, take 1/2 Gu before starting the bike.
Bike
  • 1h 36m 34s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 15.44 mile/hr
Comments:

I SUUUUUUUUUUUUCK on the bike. I passed two people the whole time and got passed by countless others, including a 72 year old man (who was very sweet about it). My bike perfomance is embarrassing. It was also raining for a lot of the time. I had 1/2 Gu every 30 minutes which was good.
What would you do differently?:

I need to figure out what the heck I'm doing wrong. More time in the saddle next year and I'm taking Ron up on his offers to go on group rides.
Transition 2
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

I took my time on this one as well and walked my bike in. The bike finish was far from where my bike was racked. Of course seeing all those bikes already racked made me sad.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was fine.
Run
  • 1h 01m 10s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

I took my time and kept pace for the entire distance. I told myself I could walk if I needed to but I didn't need to. I had half a Gu at the first mile marker. I was chatting with runners and toward the end I made a point to say something positive to everyone who passed me.
What would you do differently?:

I'd like to run faster but a 1:01 10K for me is pretty decent for a normal 10K race, so I'm really happy with the result (and I know I have to pick up my 10K race pace!)
Post race
Warm down:

collecting my stuff

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I wasn't sure what to expect so I was conservative. Plust I suck on the bike (as I've already mentioned)

Event comments:

Now I feel like I really understand what a triathlon is. This was very different from a sprint. I felt so good knowing that I had worked so hard all summer and was able to complete this goal and felt good while doing it! I am so excited to do this race and this distance again.

Congrats om completing your first Olympic Tri, and doing so in some pretty tough conditions.  Continue to train and race and next year I bet you knock off a lot of time.  Great Job.
