95F / 35C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 58m 33s
Overall Rank = 968/
Age Group = 55-59
Age Group Rank = 5/30
Pre-race routine:

My nephew picked me up at my hotel and dropped me off near the race site at 5:45. Set up transition, used porta potty, sat around and tried to relax since my heat wasn't until 8:32.
Event warmup:

Some stretching.
Swim
  • 31m 45s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim. A little crowded at the start but after about 200 yards it was wide open. It was difficult navigating on the return because of the sun making it difficult to see the buoys. There weren't many which made it harder.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

Got messed up and went down the wrong row but quickly ducked under the rack but then was looking for wrong number. Probably wasted about 15 seconds. Had hard time getting wetsuit off ankles.
What would you do differently?:

Use Pam on legs. Bodyglide helped but not as much.
Bike
  • 1h 15m 34s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.73 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride. Loved the scenery. Since I started in the second to last wave I spent most of the time on the left just passing which felt good. Only about 4 people passed me.
I had trouble drinking. Accelerade at 94 degrees just doesn't go down easily. My stomach just felt full.
What would you do differently?:

Use thermos bottle and freeze drinks.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 1h 06m 54s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a great 5k run. Too bad it was a 10k. Started off on pace, feeling good. The first 3 m iles were fine, mile 4 a bit slow, then I was finished. Mile 5 was about 11 minutes and mile 6 there was some walking. The heat really got to me, which is surprising sine I train in the heat of Florida.
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate better on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, get lots to drink, eat some pizza.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hydration. I was totally dehydrated. Drank lots of fluids after the race but hardly peed for the rest of the day.

Event comments:

Logistics were bad. The finish line was 2 miles from transition. I caught the shuttle bus fairly quickly but then had walk a long way to transition. I couldn't find the shuttle bus from transition back to the hotel and no one seemed to know where it was. Fortunately, I called my nephew and he came and picked me up.

Not enough porta potties. The lines were extremely long and they ran out of tp.

It is cleaner than some of the nasty lakes we have here! I never swam under a bridge before.
