Event warmup:

Light jog.
Run
  • 24m 5s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Not a real fast 5K, but my best one yet at this course.

This will be the last part of the race that I did fairly well. If I was doing just a 5K today, I probably could have pushed this to a good time, but as the race went on, I got too fatigued.
Transition 1
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Took too much time. Not sure where the time went.
Bike
  • 34m 12s
  • 12.7 miles
  • 22.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Held back a bit. I also got tired more than usual.

I had to brake three times in the event due to riders on the far left and middle of the road. I refuse to break the USAT rules about passing on the right, even if HFP races are filled by idiots (most were also strong riders with good bikes, so were not talking about beginners, were talking about the culture promoted by teaching hundreds of athletes that you can ignore rules in most HFP races).
What would you do differently?:

Lack of recent training was felt.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

I knocked the legs off of my rack while racking. Spent at least 25 seconds fixing it. Took no time for anything else and still had a slow time.
Run
  • 27m 46s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Absolutely horrible run. No cramps - just slow. I wanted to stop and walk so bad. Just did not have any energy. Usually I eat something before the race and take some Gels. This time I did not and maybe that plus the lack of recent training hit hard on this run plus the end of my bike.
Post race
Warm down:

I went on a nice ride with my son Max.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Maybe nutrition, probably lack of recent training.

Event comments:

Very bad race for me. Also this race set a record for the number of riders riding on the far left and middle of the road.

Wind was wicked.

The event went well so far as I saw.

HFP did not post results at the course. Everyone stood in line to get their race placement and award if earned. For me the line was short.

My overall placement was a result of a poorly attended event. My time was 4:11 slower than June when I only got 12th place overall.

A good job on a tough day. The way you felt and the elements really took their toll on everyone that day. You were right about the idiots (none of whom were BTers, I'm sure) on the bike course. I had to tell a few people not to ride in the middle of the road unless they were passing.

Way to gut out a finish in the run. We'll try to meet up at a race next season.

I'm sorry your race was tougher than usual!  It sounds like the weather was throwing everybody off.  That is annoying about the other bikers, though.
