Total Time = 2h 15m 49s
Overall Rank = 226/234
Age Group = 35 to 39
Age Group Rank = 34/34
Pre-race routine:

zone bar smothered in peanut butter 3 hours before race
24 oz water over 3 hours, ending at 45min prior to swim.
arrived early, tried to relax and get in the right mindset.

Event warmup:

stretched legs and shoulders before swim.

Swim
  • 16m 10s
  • 500 yards
  • 03m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

brr!
cold-ish water was a shock to the system. had a hard time catching my breath and not panicking the 1st 100yds or so.
What would you do differently?:

actually training the month before the race would be a good place to start.
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

slightly winded from run to T1 from beach, actually sat down to get stuff off feet and into socks/shoes.
What would you do differently?:

get T1 set up to flow better. find a way to be able to put socks in shoes so they both slip on together.
Bike
  • 1h 05m 45s
  • 16.6 miles
  • 15.15 mile/hr
Comments:

same issues as last year, had a hard time staying in gear. just as I'd get into a groove the chain would jump up or down or sometimes both ways. annoying more than anything, buggered up a hill climb.
What would you do differently?:

tune up bike in August.
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Couldn't get to bike/stuff, had to "gently move" some peoples' stuff out of the way just to rack up.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I could have done. I did what I've been taught on how to set up for T2. The minor situation at my rack was beyond my control, although I attempted to correct it pre-race.
Run
  • 49m 28s
  • 4 miles
  • 12m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

meh. rough start first 2 miles for me.
finally paced someone about my normal speed and we ended up pushing each other the last mile.
What would you do differently?:

don't ever stop to help anyone unless bones are protruding from the skin.

Post race
Warm down:

walked around for a whopping 10 minutes.
ate all the free food they made available.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not staying on top of my training.
Forgot my watch.

Event comments:

This is a good season ender if you want a little more challenge, but are not ready to do an Oly. Organized and getting better each year and also plenty of volunteers. I'll be back again next year, but next time I'll actually be prepared to race
