I guess you can use them if the race is not USAT sanctioned.

Race directors mostly dislike them in road races - I can see why if people have them blaring and can't hear the finish line instructions (i.e men to the left, women to the right, tear off your number strip, etc.), but I always have mine low enough to hear what is around me and I rip them out as I approach the finish...mostly so nobody can sneak up on me!

Skigator, I feel your pain.  Unfortunately there is no way to monitor how loud each person listens to their tunes so the safest bet is to not allow headphones across the board.  One bad apple....

As for the weather; I am loving these Fall temps but I am concerned that we might NEED wet-suits. I hope to get by without as I don't own one.   Any thoughts out there on this?

I had a race on the 20th and the water temp. was 72, which was much lower than they had anticipated, making it wet suit legal.  Nobody was prepared but the swim was only 400m so it was definitely tolerable for that long.  But the temp could be even colder for EP, you should check out the temps from last year's race reports to get an idea.

I've done three swims in Lake Lanier in the past week.  The water isn't even chilly yet.  The race should be wetsuit legal but won't be cold enough that you'll need a wetsuit.

I just did a HIM up in a NC lake where I am sure it is cooler than EP, and the water was 76F. It felt great, and I did it without a wetsuite. For only 400 meters, even if the water is cool you should be fine.

The last 2 years at EP I have not worn a wetsuit........no problem what-so-ever. Last year water temp was around 74°F.

I figure the ratio of time spent getting the dang thing off in T1 vs the actual time spent swimming would not be worth it. My swim time was 8:41 last year.

I am sadly dealing with an injury and the moderate possibility that I will be held out if not healed up. I will sell my bib at face to first come first serve if I can't go and try to give you ample notice (24 -36 hours) to plan for it. PM me.

Hooray it's (almost) the weekend.  That means 1 week and 2 days till EP!  Crap.  I better get training!  (Is cramming as effective for a triathlon as it is for a physics exam?)  On the flip side, how do you taper from nothing?

how do you taper from nothing?

I suspect that tapering from nothing would require a lot of beer.  Hmmm, almost an incentive not to train.

yeah, a week-long beer-induced coma would probably do it.  Now, to get out of work...

Hey, I'm looking for a number to buy off someone too.  Pick me, pick me!  haha

BTW, good luck with the race director. I emailed him a few times, then I saw him in person at a race and without me even mentioning my emails from weeks prior...HE brought it up and told me to my face that he would let me into the race even though it was full.  I followed-up by email after that to confirm and give him the necessary info...and he said he could not help me out...as if he had not just told me to my face a few days earlier that I was IN!  The one race I really wanted to do after just starting my season not long ago, and I got the big fat carpet yanked out from under me when I got my hopes up.

Thanks for listening to my vent!

You are not allowed to wear headphones.   Both of the races you mentioned are put on by the same person.  He does not enforce the rules the way they are supposed to enforced.  Examples:  Headphones, wet suits in the middle of the summer, drafting...   Those races are fun but not legal by national standards.

You will find that this race is run a lot different.

OK, first time user here.   This reply is to the use of headphones at Calloway and Carrolton.  After posting it I realized it does not go next to the blog you replied to.   Sorry!

Looking forward to EP.  I am doing it for the 2nd time.   Last year it was only my 3rd race.   I am very excited about this year.    I want to see if my year of training will pay off.

Weather forecast for Sunday morning per weather.com:

Sunny. High 76, Low 57.  Chance of Rain 10%.  Wind from the East 8 mph.

It'll be brisk, but not freezing; not a bad early October day!

It was a great day and a great race!  Thanks to all the organizers and volunteers for having such a well-run race.  I am glad I lost my tri-ginity with a Georgia Multisports race.  You guys are the best!  Can't wait to see the results!

Great race spoiled by poor planning...

2008 Emerald Point Triathlon, Oct 5, 2008
Will trade a Medium race shirt for a Small

I am looking to trade a Medium 2008 Emerald Point Triathlon race T-shirt for a Small. I ordered a small when I entered but when I went to retrieve my prize, they had run out. All I was given was a Medium. (It is down to my knees) I would really like to get the shirt I worked hard for.
