i figured you were just not logging your workouts so you could sandbag us

I'm using this as a speed/brick workout for B2B half.  Is your training coming along ok?

Wow, that's early for details to be up. I'm in the last wave and planning to pass you all on the bike. Well, maybe not, but the nice thing about being in the last wave is that I will have fun passing lots of folks on the bike.

This is my A race...I have an aggressive goal to cut 8 minutes off my time from last year. 2 from the swim and 6 from the run. I'll keep the bike the same. Last year I toasted myself on the bike and had a poor run. This year I am much stronger on the bike so think I can do the same split and have fresh legs. I cut 4 off Lake Norman's time despite hardly tapering and tight legs, so I think I can do this.

PS: I also have to beat the chick who passed me in the finish chute at Lake Norman. She signed up for Pinehurst after I told her it was my A race.

Spot,

I had a few weeks where work got in the way.  I should do okay, but it is a prep race for B2B as well, since I haven't finished a race yet this year.

Keyone,

If you pass me on the bike, you will hear me cheering you on, right before I break down and start crying, since I think I am in the 4th wave.

I like it better when there are guys are in the wave right before mine. That way I can check out their butts when I pass them. Or, sometimes there are 50+ guys in the wave behind mine, and I get to check out their butts as they pass me. This race, there are just women ahead of me and no-one behind me.

Yep, starting the setup tonight.  Won't switch to the race wheels until next week, but will start cleaning, checking out the bike tonight.  This is my A-race as well, I decided mid-summer, as I have put more focus into this race than any prior one (even White Lake).

I have an ambitious goal, but my main focus is to run down my training partner.  He will have a sub 20:00 swim; my only hope is to execute my bike plan to a "T", then nail the run.  Been training on lots of hills for both.  Wink

Good luck to all, and keyone, if you pass me, I'd appreciate a score no lower than 8 please.Tongue out  I'll be decked out in the Team ZootGu kit.  2nd wave, so I'll have a chance to be passed by the entire field!

I will be there.  It is not an "A" race for me, but I do hope to improve my time from last year.  I am in the wave just before keyone, so I am sure she will pass me.

Good luck everyone!!

Whats the water going to be like? Am I going to die without a wetsuit? We've had a bit of a cold spell already...

I checked my race report from last year and I wrote 76 degrees. The event details this year say "The anticipated water temp is going to be 75 – 77 degrees" You can swim fine in those temperatures, so don't worry about it.

I'm sure I won't really be passing you guys. I like spot's idea for Wilmington about putting BT on your calf. Did that work?

If you have a 'BT' on your calf, I'll be able to spot you after the race ...from BEHIND ;-)

i have had the BT on my calf for this race, White Lake Half and Washington, but no one has commented on it   So, I guess, no, it's not working.  Maybe if I put it in white on my black pants people will notice

Yeah, I bet that would work!!! I was at Washington, btw, and passed alot of nice male butts there. Probably not yours tho - I'm not THAT fast, and I think I would have noticed a BT on your calf and wondered what it was. I wasn't a BT'r back then. If you put a BT on your calf for PH, I'll look for you after the race. Do you still wear the same blue tri suit?

yep, blue top and black pants.  too cheap to buy a new top.  the shorts get worn out quicker from all the riding, but the top just seems to keep on keepin' on

Looks to be a wetsuit legal race, based on upcoming temperatures...50s???  Wow.

That is good news for me, as I am a TERRIBLE SWIMMER!!!

How screwed am I to do it without a wetsuit (I don't have one and won't have a chance to practice with one much even if I got one)? I am a decent swimming- about 25 mins for 1500 in the pool. For someone like me,  will it cut a lot of time off? And will a slower transition be worth it? Either way, see you guys there. Just one more week. Having a hard time thinking about training...I just want the race to be here already :-)

You will do fine in this race w/out a wetsuit, from a water temperature point of view. You won't get hypothermia or anything. From a performance point of view, having a wetsuit can cut 4-5 minutes off an oly swim, and only adds 30 seconds in T1. So, it is worth it to have one, but not necessary. At this point, since you haven't trained in one, I'd skip it. Some people have panic issues with the tight neckline, so you don't want to try it out on race day. Nothing new on race day EVER!!!!

I wore my wetsuit for the first time during WLH, and I got very constricted when my HR went up.  I had to take a few minutes and do breaststroke so I could feel comfortable breathing again.

And I was a good high school swimmer years ago.

I recommend that you just swim and be a little cooler.

Hey there - does anyone know if you can get a practice swim in on the day before the race? Or will it be only open certain times? thanks

There was nothing listed in the event details about a practice swim so I doubt this will be allowed.  I've never been to a NCTS race that had an official pre-race swim practice besides the race day warmup.

That said, I don't know what the Pinehurst Marina's swimming policy is so you might get lucky (but I doubt it).
