Oklahoma Redman Triathlon
75F / 24C
Sunny
Total Time = 5h 08m 27s
Overall Rank = 23/
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 3/19
Pre-race routine:

Wake-up early and start eating and hydrating.
Event warmup:

Checked everything and organized transition. Didn't get a change to swim like i normally do b/c they made people get out of water before the full start. I did swim for a minute or two before the start once they let us get in before our wave start.
Swim
  • 37m 55s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

I got off track on 3/4 of way back and swung out wide from the rest of the pack which probably lost me a minute or two. I guess i could have pushed harder on the swim but then again, this was my first half and didn't know what i needed to save for later on. Overall it was fine but i was shooting for around 35... especially with the wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

I took my time in T1, not wanting to forget anything. Wetsuit strippers did a fine job. I could have rushed a bit more... .but luckily the minutes didn't cost me places.
Bike
  • 2h 44m 33s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Very nice ride... .minus the potholes and tough 4-mile section. The no pass zone was kind of confusing b/c i kept getting passed so i ended up doing it as well b/c i thought i missed the end no pass sign. As for the pace, i felt i held a great pace.... but actually a few minus shy of my goal at 2:40. Oh well,... i guess i made up for it on the run somewhat. On another note, i did have to stop at the turn around to make a bathroom break at which point i fell down and looked like an idiot. haha
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

Again, i took my time making sure i had everything and was ready to go. Could have saved 30 seconds but whatever. I did notice that only one other bike was in my area (grouped by age group) so i knew i was high up. Also figured the time to leave me about a 1:40 run (which i ended up doing) to get around 5:00.... subconsciously sub 5 would have been nice... but my bike and swim were slower than i calculated.
Run
  • 1h 41m 27s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Apparently i had a lot left..... i ran a great run. I thought i was much slower than it turned out. The aid stations were great... i never stopped running but got enough to drink. I had to make Another bathroom stop at about mile 5 which really bugged me but only cost me about 1 minute total. The miles definately seemed like they were really long at the end...
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch, drink, eat, Massage (thanks sarah)

Event comments:

Overall, the race people did a great job and this race definately lived up to what people have said about it. Its a small, well-run half/full. The course was great for a first half as well.
I felt i did great in this race and a full now seems within my grasp... now just to figure out when it can fit in my schedule haha. Maybe spring 2010.

Dude, you smoked that race!!!  Very good job!!!  I wish I could run like you.  Excellent first Half distance. . you did very well.

The bike course was rough you are right and I thought the intersections and no passing was also "different"

 Congrats!!

Great race, especially for your first HIM! Congrats on the 3rd AG finish!

Solid all around and a smokin` run, you must have blown by like I was standing still when you passed me.

Hope to see you there again next year.

Thanks, i wish i had remembered to write down other BTer's numbers before i left town..... i had no idea who to look for haha.

In your defense, the only reason i may have blown by you was because the port-o-potty was at the next aid station. How many of the quiz questions around run station 4 did you get? I only got one of them.

I got Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton and Brown. Missed Penn, Dartmouth and Cornell. Guess I should have been running harder if I was able to think straight enough to get more than half
