Pre-race routine:

PB+J on whole wheat bread with just a little Gatorade. I had a sore throat but was able to eat anyway. Met Gwen and Heather at Plymouth PD to drop off cars and commute.
Event warmup:

Walked to the start from the parking garage then waited in line for the porta potties.
Run
  • 2h 43m 8s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 12m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

I stayed with Gwen and Heather for the first 3 miles. We started in corral 13 (I was supposed to be in corral 17, Heather was in 9) and it took 8 minutes to reach the start line. There were 16,000+ runners (I guess 3,000 DNFd?). Once we reached the start line I stayed with them even though we were running a 10m/m- waaay too fast for me. By mile 3 I was pooped and needed a walk break so I said goodbye to my friends. I ran fro another 1/2 hour or so before deciding to fall into my 12/3 run/walk routine. Turns out 3 minues of walking was too much and 12 minutes running wasn't enough. So I constantly tweaked it and got my walk breaks down to about a minute/ minute and a half. I felt good except for 1 nasty blister on my toe. Funny thing is that at mile 8 I statred thinking about the Marine Corps Marathon coming up next month and I don't know if I still wanna do it. Anyway, getting back- I wore a fuel belt with 2 bottles of gatorade and strapped a ziploc baggie with 2 bags of shot blocks and 1 bag of sport beans to it. Every 15 minutes I ate a block or a few beans and took a small swig of gatorade. I drank water on the course at each water stop. I tried the Cytomax once (YUCK YUCK YUCK YUCK) and decided water was much better. All in all I had a great day and PR'd to boot!
What would you do differently?:

Nail down my run/walk breaks to see what I really NEED, not just want.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a bottle of water, got my medal, snagged a few granola bars and met up with Gwen and Heather at out pre arranged tree spot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My extra weight (I just got some good news about that- more to come later- BYE BYE INSULIN!)

Event comments:

How can you complain about a race you PR'd on? It was a beautiful day to run, the weather was awesome and it was a pretty course. There were lots of volunteers and unlike finishing IMLP, I actually heard the announcer say "Here's Beth Sanborn from Lansdale". It was a great day all in all.

Good job! PDR is an easy race to start out too fast. The first 4.5 miles are really exciting with all of the people, spectators, and the Eagles Pep Band. And, don't think bad thoughts about your upcoming marathon, since they only appeared when you were fatigued. I'm sure you will do just fine in October. Good luck!

Nice job on the PR at PDR! I got one too!

It took me a second to figure out what race you were writing about since ING was everywhere. It ain't "Jeff now" . I like my medal from 2007 best; it has no sponsor name on the front
