Subject: Clipless pedals....
So I finally have my new bike a 2008 Cervelo P2C Dura-Ace. (A birthday present from my wife). But now its time to look at clipless pedals and shoes. I have no idea where to start. These will be my first pair. Price really isnt an option, I just dont know what to look for or even where to start. Experienced BTers' I need help. Any ideas or even a link that I can learn about would be greatly appreciated.........

Yeah..you will get a thousand opinions on this one. I have Specialized Tri-Vents (shoes) and Look-Keo/Sprint pedals. Like them both. The Tri-Vents are really nice, triathlon specific shoes (big loop in the back for easy transition, only two straps, venting to dry your feet/keep them cool) and they fit great even during long rides. My only complaint on the keo pedals is that you need to flip them over to clip in (versus the speedplay pedals). Not that big a deal, but probably the only thing I dont like about them.

Crank brothers pedals get recommended often as they're inexpensive and have multi-sided entry.  Those are both good qualities for your first set of clipless pedals.

I have tried a few different types overthe years. I like the Time RXS pedals the best. I use the Shimano Tri shoes that have worked well for the past two years.

Don't take my word for it. Bikesportsmichigan.com has a review on pedals that rates Time RXS as the best.

X2  CB's Quattro road pedals are a great all-round pedal and great for newbs. Double-sided with 4 points of cleat entry, adjustable float, easy to clip out, no maintenance, low profile for good turning clearance, the cleats won't clog with debris, which is paramount if you plan on running in the shoes in transition. The cleats also make said running easy with the low profile of the cleat itself. There are different models, from stainless (cheap) to titanium ($$$) and they come in many colours to match your ride, if that kind of thing is important to you.

ETA that I just realized that in the 4 years I've been hanging around BT, I don't think anyone has ever posted a negative thing about the Quattro pedals, unlike some negative reviews that other pedals get such as Speedplay, SPD.

Just make sure that the shoes are snug fitting. Everybody's feet are different so try on alot of different brands to find the one that is right for you.

I've used a bunch of different pedals and currently like my Time RXS. They offer fairly light weight a good platform (although with a stiff shoe that is less important), adjustability for tension,a dn cleats you can 'walk' in.

Just in case anyone is looking - there are some adidas tri cycling shoes on sale for $70  right now at chainlove.

No idea if they are any good, but the price sure is!

www.chainlove.com

(They do one deal at a time - if you click the link and don't see the shoes you are too late).
