I have seen numbers given in books but wanted to see what kind of correlation might be made. If you have done more than one full Ironman, go ahead and enter poll for each of them if you remember the training involved.

2 IM's.

First one I was in the 10-12 hours most week.  Peaked around 15.  Did a 12:35.

Next one, only trained for about 6 weeks total (as dedicated training).  Peak week was also 15, average was closer to just under 10 or so.  Finished in 12:20.

I'm sure I'm outside the statistical norm.

16:33 finish and I did 66 hours my last month of training.

While I think the stats in general may show a trend, obviously there are so many other factors left out, gender, age, break down by hours per discipline etc.  To be honest, I am trying to size up the task to see if I can really handle the distance-because

I don't think I am willing or able to train any more than what I am doing now while getting ready for a HIM.  A friend of mine just showed me what he did to get a 10:37 at IM Wisconsin (peaking at 28 hrs).  While I would love to go that fast I can not envision finding the time.

Thing to consider in training is a person's relative speed. Use Rick as an example he can do a 100 mile ride much faster than I can. So he can do same distance training in much less time. Same goes for his running.

You are wise to look at the time it takes to train before you pull the trigger and sign up. It really is about 8 weeks of long training...before that it isn't that much more than HIM training or that is how I see it.
