Pre-race routine:

Haven't been sleeping this past week. Went to bed at midnight the night before and got about 4 hours. Ate a bagel with peanut butter, a banana and apple. Checked the bag about 3 times to make sure it was all in there.
Event warmup:

None, just waled around and felt like I was going to hurl. Was excited to hammer this race, but did not realize it would be such an emotional one.
Swim
  • 09m 45s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

Have never done a pool swim for a tri before. Was matched up with ladies who were perfect for me. No one passed anyone in the lane the enitre time. Never got my groove at all throughout the whole swim. Too much thinking going on in that melon of mine. Wanted to do my best today, but never quite got there. The strangest thing is that there was no chip timing, so I don't know where my transitions were added on.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more before. Hadn't swam in 3 weeks...not a good plan. Did one short swim on Friday.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No clue.
What would you do differently?:

Be faster...as always. I dried myself off as much as I could.
Bike

Comments:

Met an extremely kind person who deserves huge kudos for helping a mess!
Transition 2

Comments:

Again no chip time, so no clue.
Run

Comments:

This was the most hilarious run I have ever done. Again, don't know where they stuck the transitions, but wow, was I slow!!!! Hopefully, they lumped it in here. I saw no other racers except for 2 walkers at the beginning. It was very strange running alone without any other participants around. Saw the volunteers..they were not very chatty. One of them was sleeping with her arm pointing in the correct direction :-). At the end, my husband and kids were there to cheer me on as well as a friend's husband and their two children. My 2 ran in with me. Got hugs from everyone and Debbie waited for me as well and gave a big hug at the end. What a kind soul.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster for pete sakes!!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Had a bagel, banana and cookie. Walked around with Leslie and cheered another friend of mine, Kathi on. She rocked!!! Met a few other BT'ers, schmize, jabraunski and hollyslu. Wonderful to meet all of you!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The d#*m cancer...just diagnosed and a lot of emoitons going thru my mind. Glad I did it, but I am wiped!!!

Bike was a mess at the beginning. I was an emotional wreck to start the bike. Thank god a woman named Debbie biked up next to me. She asked if I was ok. I let her know what was going on with me and she did the best thing I have ever seen anyone do. The jist of what she said was that "I could do this today and would bike strong and well and that she would help me get there". She biked with me the enitre time and this was her first tri. I thank her from the bottom of my heart. She helped increase my pace which was good. My normal pace has been faster than this day, but I did it.

Just do what I do and call Terri with all BT questions - she is my unofficial all knowing computer geek at home (for BT anyway).  Good job getting it done out there today - sometimes its tough, but you kept moving forward.

Great to see you kept going when you probably wanted to scratch it.  Proud of you and I will take that 42 seconds.

Michele - Great race.  Truly incredible and inspirational.  I know you would like to downplay it, but you placed in your race category and that is HUGE.  And thanks for getting my cousin Kathi, and ultimately her son into this lifestyle!  Now they don't think I am as crazy as they used, too

Nice to meet you, as well.
