Time for some great winter riding. Make sure you get a trainer tire if you plan on riding a lot otherwise you will destroy your nicer road tires.

I did my first trainer ride on Saturday!  I also got the Fluid 2 as an early bday present.  It was harder than I anticipated.....

My wife purchased a Blackburn Fluid trainer for me off Ebay. I love it. The bike is by far the worst part of my race.

During one race last year I came out of the water in the top 10 but during the bike I only passed a guy with a flat tire and an old lady riding to the store. So I am hoping that it will help me out.

Continental makes a specific trainer tire that is made out of a different material that doesn't get chewed up on the trainer. Only issue is that you can not use it outside on the road. So if you do both trainer rides and outside rides you need to swap tires between the two unless you have two wheels.

Congrats on the trainer..me personally find dragging out the trainer a sad time as I'd rather be riding outside.

A new tire, or new wheel and tire?

Either/or.  You can get a new wheel if you don't want to swap tires a lot, otherwise the tire is good enough.

I also got to do my first trainer ride this weekend thanks to my partially selfish gift to jcnipper for his birthday.  :-)  It wasn't too bad, but outside is more fun.  I miss the downhill!

I bought a new rim, so that I did not have to swap tires. Swapping a rim is easier. I bought it used on the forum here with a cassette for $60 shipped. Then whatever the cost of the tire, I think I have a TacX tire.
