Pre-race routine:

I felt like we got to sleep in today since we did not leave until 6:15 this morning! That is very unusual for race day but we are so close and just doing the sprint. Had the usual waffles and peanut butter and honey.
Event warmup:

Talked to Jen, Craig, Beth, Robin and Todd as we waited for the start. I could not decide if I was going to wear my wetsuit or not. Put it on halfway, then decided not to wear it. Was lucky enough that Jen took it for me. We cheered for FastToad (did the OLY) as he was super fast in the water!

Nothing which is not good for me. I need that warmup but Robin and I jumped in the water (holding hands like 1st graders and laughing) and swam to starting bouy. That was my warmup!

Comments:

Started the swim with Robin. None of us girls heard the horn and then everybody started yelling "GO GO!" We all started and it wasn't too bad for 60 of us starting together. I did get run over several times but nothing like previous races. I tried drafting several times and stuck with one girl until the turn, then I got way off track and couldn't catch her to draft again! Sun caused some trouble for me coming in and I started feeling dizzy and couldn't figure out the direction I was headed.

What would you do differently?:

Need to practice more in sighting! I was way off several times and had to come back to get back on track. I noticed that I do not kick much at all in open water swims but in pool swims I use my legs so much more! Swimming is my weakness and I need some help.

Comments:

I enjoyed this bike course. I started with one hill and I only had 1 foot in my shoe.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting on the bike. Took to much times trying to figure things out while mounting the bike!

Comments:

This was a great course. There were some hills right when I got on the bike but otherwise, it was a very fast course. The first loop, the course was empty - second loop was very crowded. I felt great on the bike and was able to push it. I did a GU at mile 10 or so to prepare for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Practice jumping on the bike. I did have a little trouble at the mount line.

Comments:

Not sure what was going on but I just could not get it going the first mile. I looked at my Garmin and was not happy. I kept on making excuses: "Longhorn is next week or don't hurt your knee." Finally thought of an article that I read the other day in Runners World, Ryan Hall saying that when he wanted to ease up he did not want to have any regrets at the end, or thinking he could have done better. So finally after mile 1 I started to pick it up a bit but was not able to meet my goal. Just did not feel right on the run today.
What would you do differently?:

Have not done the speed work in awhile...need to get back on that! Jen - we are going to the track again!!!!!
Post race
Warm down:

hung out with Jen, Beth, Craig, watched Todd finish (he beat me though by 2 minutes, and cheered Robin and FastToad. Fun to watch the runners from the Olympic finish the race!

Event comments:

This was a great race! I enjoyed the course for all 3 segments!

You and my wife jumped in the water holding hands? Did somebody get a photo?  Nice job on the race.  Your run was better than you thought if you compare it to the other times.
