Pre-race routine:

Nice race start at 10am

Arrived about 9:20 found Marianne and we gabbed
Event warmup:

Did looseners and then ran a bit with a couple of excels.

Just wanted to test myself to see where my fitness is and get a baseline for improvement this off season.
Run
  • 30m 5s
  • 3.16 miles
  • 09m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

I did my inhaler a couple times.

Dick and Rick Hoyt showed up..they had all the wheelchair athletes (lots of two person teams maybe 7?)start in the front which blocked everyone in. Then every made a wrong turn..it was strange.

I found my pace and just kept going. I felt okay breathing wise, pushing as hard as I could. Mind was pretty good with only a couple negative thoughts here and there. Testing when I'm slow is a struggle at times for me less running than cycling as I've seen how fast I can lose run speed but I know it will come back.

Marianne was slowly making the gap between us farther...from our runs together lately I know she is faster than I am.

Tried picking up the pace last mile..more effort but not faster. Pushed hard to finish.

Mile 1 9:16
Mile 2 9:40
Mile 3 9:51
Last .16 1:17 or 8:10 m/m...sweet!
What would you do differently?:

I think I did the best I could today given my fitness..it was fun running with Marianne...we will do more of these...great workout.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a bit, gabbed, stretched my calves and hamstrings, drank water

We should have stayed as Marianne won her AG...sweet! and set a PB!!!

Say congrats if you want

Event comments:

Sponsored by a branch of my Y. They had fun things for kids to do if one parent did the race. Good cause!

Terrific race.  5K's are harder to race than one would think.  You have no time to hold back on it, it's all just push the limits the whole time.
