Overall Rank = 179/515

Age Group Rank = 39/99
Pre-race routine:

Work trip on Thurs and Fri and only got home at 7:30. Put kids to bed and got packed. Up at 5 to drive down. Got lost and almost missed the start.
Event warmup:

None- ran to start!
Swim
  • 25m 19s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nice swim. Felt good. Had trouble with one bouy and swam about 20 yards out of my way to get around it. Other than that it was a nice swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure- get to the race earlier!
Transition 1
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

OK T1. Was really winded and legs were almost cramping when I got out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

Get there earlier so that start isnt so rushed.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 30s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.01 mile/hr
Comments:

Legs felt wobbly for 5-10 miles. Nice course though.
What would you do differently?:

Train longer. Get a tri bike? Almost everyone who passed me was on a tri bike. Only one roadie passed me on my roadie.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Forgot helmet on but it wasnt a big deal.
What would you do differently?:

Take GU in T2. I needed something on the run!
Run
  • 51m 18s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

The first mile felt good (7:30). Then the wheels came off. Next mile was 8:01, then 8:04, 8:20 and then 9:32 (with a walk on the tough hill). I couldnt think of anything other than falling over! The last mile was 8:10 or so. My thighs were very tired!
What would you do differently?:

Train more hills and bricks including hills. Overall more running in training, rather than 6-8 weeks before race. I didn't have enough reserves for the run.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall fitness? Nutrition?

Event comments:

Overall time was better than expected. Run was harder than I expected and I was surprised at how bad I felt on it. Is that because I didn't train enough, was just fatigued from rest of race or nutritional issues? Not sure. How much time would a tri bike save me? I'd be very interested because all the bikes passing me were tri bikes. Either way, nice race.

I always get lost to this race too, even tho I had really good directions this time - ARGH! Sorry you were so rushed. I hate that feeling.

I think your time is great, despite that you felt off in the run. More run training and more bricks, maybe. I took Gu every 30 minutes the whole race, btw.

I did the race last year on a road bike and got exactly your time. This year I had a tri bike and got 1:09. So, there's your answer. I will say I am also alot stronger on hills, so mayby only half that time is due to the bike, the other half to me.
