Just a list to see what everyone is using on the bike. I'm on a x-wing, and am thinking about changing it out. Thanks for the input.

I hate anythingon the back of my bike seat.  it never fails that when i hit a RR crossing or a bump I don't see my bottle falls out and if I'm going fast, tired, or there is wind, I don't hear it and I end up in themiddle of no where with no hydration.  this sucks.

i've also had it happen where I heard it drop and when it did drop, the top popped off and my nutrition emptied into the street.

my x-lab is terrible.

now all I depend on is a jet stream up front and 2 water bottle cages...that's PLENTY for any length ride for me!  If I need to "fill er up" on a super hot day. I keep my nutrition in my cages and keep the jet stream with plain water to wash it down!

I just added a Minoura single cage saddle mount to my two frame cages.  So far I like it but still need a good way to carry tubes and such.

At this point I am using a frame mounted bottle cage.  I will look for something in the near future.

I have a Never Reach System.  I think these are great.  You can have the tubing come basically right up to your mouth if you want to set it up that way.  I sold to another Dave on this site.

I have  a 3L Camelbak that I use more for ruck marches, but I have used it long touring rides, like RAGBRAI.  It's not optimal, but it beats filling up so often.

I carry 2 bottle cages and a $5 bill incase I need a fill up. Usually Its not a problem unless the ride is REALLY long. I try to do most of my 50 mile+ rides on organised events so I have pleanty of support, but I have nothing against stopping in a 7-11 at mile 30 for a gatorade and some water.

Leah: I haven't noticed a difference with my Profile AeroDrink system, but I've only had a chance for a couple of rides out on the road with it.

I have the Profile and also a framer mounted cage.  The cage really is only to carry refills for the Profile.  When the Profile is empty, I empty the cage bottle into the Profile.

I've seen the NeverReach systems, and although they look slightly goofy, they also look like they'd be easy to use as aero than anything else out there, if not more so.

I use cages and if I'll be out for a while, I put on my (fake) Camelbak. Low-tech and cheap, but it works.

I've used a Cambelbak for years. Removed my cages once I bought the camelbak. During the hotter/more humid months, I add ice to the bag which also serves to cool my back a bit while I'm riding (Florida swamps are steam baths!). For short rides, I stuff a water bottle into my seatbag.

I use the X-Lap x-wing, with two cages, one downtube cage, and the aerodrink bottle. I carry tire patches, tool thingy, tire iron, money, keys, etc. in a old water bottle in one of the X-Lab cages.

I also have the 100oz Camelbak "Viper", which is just awesome during the summer months on those longer rides.

DrLeah,

I have never had a problem handling the bike with the AeroDrink bottle while it is either empty, 1/2 full, or totally full. I ususally fill mine up to 3/4 full. The bike is more nible without the bottle being mounted. For upcoming sprint races I will remove it, but for longer straight courses or for training rides it is golden.

I've never had a problem handling (or notice any difference in bike handling) with my jet stream.  however, if you're running on a less than 80-90cm stem....you may find out this to be different.

I used (use) a camelback when mtn biking. Bottles just don't like to stay in cages on the mtn bike when I take it through technical stuff.

On my tri bike, I have 1 frame cage, and the profile aerodrink thing. I've got a shaped tube frame, and there' s only mount point for one bottle cage in the frame. I do have concern about the rear mount bottles coming loose though. Guess I'll have to try it out and see. At least if one did, I'd have the one on the frame, plus what's in my profile. So probably I'd use up the rear one first.

Thanks to all for the input.
My only complaints about the xwing is that it sits too high, and makes a quick mount/dismount a bit of the struggle. I do really like the ability to put a spare tire/co2/chuck/speed lever and a couple of bottles on it though.
Maybe I'll keep it for 1/2s and up, and drop it for the Olys/sprints.

NeverReach - 2008-10-14 4:02 PM

NeverReach defintely looks goofy with its teardrop shaped container, but so did Camelbak in its first few years.. The teardrop shape gives the cyclist a 35 sec gain in a 40K time-trial in comparison to nothing! In other words, it increases your performance just having it mounted without drinking from it. Of course you want to drink from it so you can stop reaching..

That's at least 3 years old threads you've resurrected to pitch Never Reach in your first three posts.  Thought about buying some advertising space???

Frame, it is all you need in a supported race.

Rear cages (behind the seat) if it is not as well supported .........

Im liking my camelback 2L, but its a hassel to clean and put together (cheap one), but i bought a fuel belt today for running and cycling, cant wait to use it. I also want to buy an aero drink....or non-aero drink for training.
