Pre-race routine:

Set up transition and walk transition with my family to see who I know.
Event warmup:

Start with a short beach run and a short swim.
Watched the wave starts before mine to find the best line.

  • 05m 14s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards

One of my best swims since I started doing Triathlons. Hard swim from the start.
What would you do differently?:

Remember with I did for my next race!!
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s

Good start this race. Out of T1, short hill with left hand turn. I was in the right gear to get up to speed
What would you do differently?:

Go a little faster!!
  • 28m 56s
  • 8.39 miles
  • 17.40 mile/hr

Great ride until coming into T2. Coming down the right hand down hill turn. The ground was wet and I was coming in to fast. There was a rider coming out of T1 and if I would have stayed on the line I was on. I would have run into her. Since I was going to fast, I went to the left and crashed over the curb and into the dirt. I was out of my shoes with helped out a lot. Got up and ran into T2 with a bloody knee.
What would you do differently?:

Come into T2 a little slower.
Transition 2
  • 01m 42s

With my wife at my side checking out my knee and arm from the crash.
What would you do differently?:

NOT CRASH!!! coming into T2.
  • 24m 17s
  • 2.49 miles
  • 09m 45s  min/mile

Started ok and then my knee started to hurt about 10 minutes into the run. I told myself that I would not stop and I had to finish running.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Crash coming into T2!!

I had to laugh a little at your comment about what you'd do differently for T2..."not crash". That was my comment for this race in 2007. Last year in the "Steamboat", I crashed coming into T2 as well! (Only difference is that I had to finish the race with a broken wrist, so I suppose you should count your blessings that you weren't hurt worse.)

Awesome swim! Congrats on a really good effort!
