Lake Lanier Island, Georgia
United States
Georgia MultiSports Productions, LLC.
Total Time = 1h 08m 57s
Overall Rank = 48/468
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 2/51
Pre-race routine:

Clif bar 2 hours before plus a Propel. Then water to hydrate.
Event warmup:

Walked around talking to friends and did some dynamic stretching. Didn't want to get in the water as the air temp was rather cold.
Swim
  • 08m 28s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim time is deceptive as it included the run up the monster hill into transition.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to sprint out of the start then settle into a rythm. I lined up at the front on the outside. People sprinted out and over me, then slowed by the first two bouys where I had to swim around them. It was tough with a short distance to the first turn bouy.
Transition 1
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

Struggled with the straps on my shoes again to slide in before running out.
What would you do differently?:

Next year I need to learn to do a running mount with the shoes on the bike.
Bike
  • 36m 30s
  • 13 miles
  • 21.37 mile/hr
Comments:

Thought I would have a faster bike than this. I was shooting for over 22, but overall the bike felt good. It was strange being at the front of the pack. I was all alone on the bike after mile 2 until the point where the out and back portion started. I seem to get more motivated when I have targets to catch.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

No problems putting on the socks and exiting fast.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 21m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't feel well on the run and thought I was going to lose it in the last mile. Was happy with the pace considering the way I felt.
What would you do differently?:

Alter Infinit formulation.
Post race
Warm down:

Hydrated and ate pretzels. Went to go cheer on the rest of the NAMC crew and friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Didn't push the bike as much as I could have, but that is probably a good thing considering the way I felt on the run.

Event comments:

This sets my 1 year doing tri's. I started with this race last year on a 20+ year old mountain bike and came in with a 1:32. I knocked off over 23 minutes in one year of training ... next year will be tougher to improve again

great job!  This was my first race and I am inspired by your progress from last year.  I hope that I can cut my time down by anything close to the amount you did.
