Sunny
Total Time = 2h 01m 20s
Overall Rank = 2162/3706
Age Group = 30-34F
Age Group Rank = 328/718
Event warmup:

Walked from the MFA T-stop to the start area, got everything except the porta-potty line easily taken care of, and then nearly missed the race start due to long lines. 40 jons for 3000+ runners is NOT enough, BAA folks!
Run
  • 00m
  • 13.2 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

I ran the whole race, except two water tables. I also run with Matthew, not solo, so that kept my pace up. Overall I felt like it was an ideal day for racing but I was probably very under-trained. I'd prepared two clients for this race better than I'd prepared myself! No running over 7 miles, No steady progression of weekend running, no nuthin'

What would you do differently?:

Plan for a race that was CERTAIN to happen; this one was a maybe until 2 weeks before (due to a family wedding in NY State that we were thinking of attending, though I'm glad we didn't). By the time I knew I'd be running, it was too late to build mileage or do much mental prep except "I can do this!"
Post race
Warm down:

Left knee felt pretty sore, still did 12 hours later...
I fear doing a quad stretch now, but did stretch hips and calves and hammies after the race. Just hope my knee bounces back.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training and maybe the blisters that formed by mile 11 on my left foot, plus my sore left knee.

Oh wow, I just checked back to my 2004 results for my first half marathon (new bedford, ma)

and today's was a PR by 15 seconds!?  OMG.  Is this what not training for the last few months can do for my times...keeping in mind my steady training over the last 4 year... this really makes me want to go sub-2 now!

NICE RACE SUNNY!!

i'm so excited for you! i'm having the same 'slightly' under-prepared doubts - 10 days to prep for a 10K is not enough!  i'll be running on inspiration and faith.

congrats again - and watch out - the next race will be way faster than 2!!

(oh it's RedSoxChick, btw - i keep forgetting to log John out when i'm on his computer ;) )

Thanks, Lisa!!  It's a good day for you to race, so enjoy the 10Km and just "go with the flow" in terms of pacing.  You'll do fine!   Enjoy the cheers, squeals, and sights of all of those racers.  Run like the gazelles.

Cheers, -Sunny

P.S.  Hi to John from me...cute that you two are often logged in at the same acct.  Now I'll recognize you next time, too.

Congrats Sunny.  I ran this yesterday too.  What a perfect day for a run.  Of course you PR'd, if you hadn't run passed 7 miles then you had the ultimate taper!

How awesome you ran such a good pace with less-than-ideal trainings.

Maybe I should adopt your trianing plan.

Great job!
