Subject: Pre-race ride(serious WTF ride.) Okay, so I went to ride the route for my tri next week and check out the pool and see where transition will be set up and what it will likely play out like. I checked out the pool. Found the exit door and then went out to get the bike.
I got the bike out and pumped the front tire, then pumped the back and as I pulled the pump off the stem of the presta, the base of the stem pulled away from the tube. PPSSHHHH! FLAT!! So, I always carry one tube on the bike and at least 2-3 in the van. Pull out the flat tube, put the new tube in, re-seat the tire bead and pump. Pull the pump off and hear the tell-tale sound of SSSSSSS, slow leak. Damn, next tube....pull out the 2nd tube, put the 2nd new tube in and pump it up. Pull the pump off and no noise, nice full tire at about 104 psi.
So, I hit the road, just seeing where I could push the bike and where to spin up the LOOONNNGGG hills in Chapel Hill. As I am nearing a rather large intersection, my back tire kicks out sounding like a little rock had kicked out from the tire. I stayed upright fortunately and did not join the road rash club yet, but I have a feeling it's coming. I ride another short distance... .10 mile and the back end isn't feeling right, too much vibration. I pull of the highway (yes I said highway. ) Back tire is way flat...now hoping I didn't screw up the wheel, pull out my third dead tube and put the third new tube in. Re-seat and inflate with CO2 and hit the road again. 3 FREAKIN FLATS IN THE SPAN OF AN HOUR!!!!!! WTF!!!! Well, I'd rather it happen today then next Sunday, but still what a spectacularly crappy ride. Sorry, had to share, I figured most of you would understand this more than hubby.
BTW, now I have to go buy new tubes because my stock of them is GONE!!!
