Pre-race routine:

Drive to the race. Ride bike to transition and setup. Run back to the van in my sandles to get my wife and son.
Event warmup:

Besides riding the bike to transition and then being rushed to to setup my transition area, that is all the warmup I had. I did a tiny 30 second swim when I got in the water.
Swim
  • 13m 55s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

Best swim in a race so far. I felt calm and just swam. I didn't run into hardly anyone, just a few guys from the first wave about half way through.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I hope all my swims go like this.
Transition 1
  • 02m 33s
Comments:

This went well except my left heal got stuck a little. It was not too bad. Just 10 seconds longer maybe. I did put my sandles on the ramp so my feet wouldn't get rocks stuck to my feet in the dirt. Best idea I had all day. LOL
Bike
  • 1h 03m 16s

  • 10.43 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a fun race. I love mountain bike racing! It was difficult to pass in a few spots and one lady refused to move when I was behind her and when I tried to make a move on her left she ended up swerving into me and I hit a large rock and crashed. I was a little fired up! LOL The hills on the 3rd lap was tough. I thought there was no way I was going to have a good run. My legs were on fire.
What would you do differently?:

I have to figure out how to pass 50 year old ladies that think they own the trail.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Run
  • 22m 30s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was good. I am very happy with the pace I was able to keep.
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I have been training for 6 months now, so I am just getting going with all this triathlon business. I hope after a year of this I will be able to be faster.

Event comments:

I loved this race and thought that they did a good job with everything. The slip and slide finish was great for some entertainment as people finished. The trophies were cool and they through out a lot of free stuff.

Aww there was free stuff?  Either it went before I finished or after I left.  I'm more saddened by the lack of beer at the finish line.  I assume that had to do with Tempe's regulations?
