Pre-race routine:

woke up early 5am and had breakfast and went to the potty. My bro picked me up and we waited for Derrick. My bro works in the city so we got to park in one of the citys lot for free. We made plans to meet after the race and off we went. Derrick is a friendly guy and started to chat with some ladies. One of the girls was a overwieght. As we were walking the girls were in front of us and Derrick starts to talk about how he did not sign up for the fatty group. I asked him you mean the clydedale group. The girls in front of us could hear and I did not want them to think we were idiots but that was to late. Derrick went on to say how he lost alot of weight and was glad he was no longer a fat ass.
Event warmup:

Time goes by so fast I always forget to warmup for the Marathon. Plus if you don't get in the pace area early its a hassel. I met my friend (Greg)from work and I told him we could start together since this was his 1st marathon. I also ran inot Enrique a Triathlete and a Marine. My brother got a kick out of him since he is very animated and loud.

Comments:

I lost Greg in the crowd pretty quick. I had not stopped at the 1st water station since I was wearing my fuel belt and I felt great. I had heed, endurlytes and gels. Greg found around mile 2 and we chatted. I asked him if his family is coming down and he tells me he is getting a divorce. Huh, I do not know what to say and tell him my wife and kids will be at mile 19.
He starts running sort of fast putting my HR to Z4. I start to slow down and he slows down to. I tell him my plan is go slow for the half and then picked it up. I finally get my HR to Z2 and feel great. I tell Greg I can run at this pace forever(10 min). Around mile 10 I loose Greg again at one of the water stops. He was running through the aid station and that was not my plan. I wanted to conserve energy for the later. Mile 17 I was suppose meet up with Kelly but we did not have any luck this year.
Mile 19 I met my family, hugged my kids and kissed my wife and off I went.
My wife said I looked like I had a lot of energy. Which at that time I did. My parents were going to try to come out at mile 20 but I did not see them. My dad cannot drive and relies on my niece for rides. Lots people along the route and I was were I wanted to be Z3. Mile 23 my bro jumps in and the sun has been talking a toll on me. I found some ice but I cannot cool down and I notice my HR is Z5. I start to walk to bring me down to Z4. My bro tells me the heat is also effecting him. We hit mile 24 and my bro cannot keep up with me. I am running around 11min pace. My bro normally runs around 12min pace. I tell him I am going to push on but find myself walking the balance of the marathon. I feel sick and feel like vomitting. Once I feel better I make it to the finish line. I find a garbage can and wait to vomit again. People are staying away from the garbage can since I am hugging it. Someone from the med. staff tells me to sit down and he will take me to the med tent. I feel like a wus but also could use some help. The doc tells him to put me in the shade with ice and I should drink gatorade. I refuse the liquids and sit for about 15min.
I call my bro and tell him I am getting my stuff from gear check and will meet him at the car.
What would you do differently?:

I would stick to my plan and keep my HR in Z2 or 3 for the first half.
I guess the weather, I would change the weather to 60 degrees or less.

Great job dawg!  Great job!  I had my arms wrapped around a tree at the end.  I didn't want anyone to think I was garbage picking.

You did awesome Griz. You held in there and stayed strong given the conditions. I'm really proud of you!!!

And I still feel like a terrible friend for messing up which side of the street to meet on and not getting to run with you.
