Pre-race routine:

Um...Chuckle. I was in Vegas the day before for my sister's wedding and step-mom's 50th Birthday. Left Vegas at 8 p.m. Home at 1:00 a.m. Up at 3:45 a.m. to get down to Hermosa and check-in. Although I did get the first spot in my rack. Got a chai tea latte and played solitaire on my phone and listened to my Ipod to zone out for a bit.
Event warmup:

Swam 150 yards in water and jogged on the beach.
Swim
  • 12m 59s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

Rough swim for me. I got used to the temperature but the water was choppy. The toughest part was coming back into the rising sun. I could not make out the coast or where the flags were and others struggled to as I kept running into clydes that were breast stroking to get their bearings.
Transition 1
  • 03m 31s
Comments:

Had a moderate beach run into transition and was racked in the second furthest rack from the mount line, so I had a long run in and out in my bike shoes.
Bike
  • 32m 5s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was best leg for me this race. I was familiar with the course and knew how I wanted to run it. Only problem was loosing my water bottle on the second lap, but had hydrated well enough.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Smooth transition - just a long run in the bike shoes.
Run
  • 32m 40s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Struggled this leg. Walked twice. Felt the lack of sleep and a full weekend the most here. Still pressed a really good pace for me. Finished within 2 minutes of the 5 guys ahead of me so feel that I can improve my performance in the future with more running base and weight loss.
Post race
Warm down:

Banana, water, crackers. Drove to a friend's church to visit for a bit. Ice bath to relieve legs after long drive home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of sleep

Event comments:

Good race, good time, glad I did not pass on the chance to get one more race in for my first season.

Nice race!  Sorry I didn't get to meet you, it was a fun day.  Did you see those Multisport Ministry guys?  Talked to one, seems like a neat group.

Have a good one!
