Age Group Rank = 1173/1545
Pre-race routine:

Bagel & peanut butter & coffee
Event warmup:

Walked from my office near the waterfront up to the start, found Marianne and Dawn - had a Luna moon and water...
BSC did a fun group warm-up!
Run

  • 10m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

We seeded ourselves at the front of the 10 minute milers and that was probably a mistake because we were caught in the 'washing machine effect' - lots of elbows hindered the progress. MAV kept us moving at a pretty good pace, though! The first 2.5 were strong 9+ mm, then at the water stop I let her charge on and I walked for 3 minutes. I made the turn under the BU bridge and picked up the pace again until we crossed the Mass Ave bridge - I took in the view for a nice 5 minute walk. This cleared my head and I charged on down Comm Ave. I knew I wanted to come into the finish strong so I walked for another minute between Dartmouth and Clarendon... Then when I could see the green of the Public Gardens I thought of SunnyS's gazelle-legs and kicked it in.
What would you do differently?:

Sign up for a big race sooner so I could train a little bit more - it's all in the head - gotta get over that.
Post race
Warm down:

Got the big hug from MAV after crossing the finish - we drink some water, had some Bare Naked granola and a banana - sat, stretch and relaxed with her friend/coworker Marcia - and reflected on the great day!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

limited training
