So this morning, for the first time in years, my Garmin (Forerunner 305) wouldn't pick up a satellite and I was in a strange place.  I have often forced myself not to look at the Garmin, in order to work on correct self-pacing, but it has always (well, for the past few years) been there.  This was different.  I admit that as I started off I felt very strange, a bit disoriented.  I just ran.  Annoyed with it, I had left the Garmin back in the hotel room and just glanced at a nearby clock as I left.  After that, I had no idea how far, or how long, I had been running.  i just ran.  After a while, it felt really great.  I think I had forgotten what it feels like to just run.

OK., I admit, I glanced at that same clock when I returned, and later plotted the route on mapmyrun.com, so I still need some therapy, but nonetheless, it was fun to just run (and just slightly scary that according to mapmyrun.com I ran exactly 10K).

Use the force.

Yeah, I experienced the same mental jet lag (sonic boom?) first getting to know the numbers on my heart rate monitor, then realising it wasn't telling me anything I didn't know, then running without it, and thinking 164, 166, 168 instead of labeling the perceived exersion as aerobic and anaerobic in my head.

My zone 5 starts about 180, and I laugh at myself every Saturday morning on my usual bike group ride, when I climb the same big hill, or when we do our 6 mile "time trial" stretch, and I think I'm not going to last at this pace, and look down and see 179, 180, 181, and I hear Scotty, "she just can't take this much longer captain!".

Good luck,

 Bill

"Nothing, I'm all right."

That's because like Luke, you were using The Force.
