Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 135/223
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 630ish and got some oatmeal and some toast/water in me. Tried to make sure I used to the bathroom enough because of the last years problems.
Event warmup:

Walked around with my cousin and girlfriend (she was doing the 5k) Watched her go off and finish. She did really well for her first 5k. 25:something.
Run
  • 2h 06m 16s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent run up until mile 6 or 7ish. Then just started to fade away. My legs started getting tight. Not cramping or anything just really tight. Alot of the tightness would happen on the uphills and I would stop and stretch them out and lose precious time. At around mile 10-11 I realized I wouldn't get my time I wanted and was shooting for so I sorta just went into survival mode. In the pictures you can see the strain on the last few miles.
What would you do differently?:

Run more long runs and push through the harder parts. Heat had a lot to do with it I think.
Post race
Warm down:

Finished got my medal and enough water to swim in. Waited for the Maryland double with my gf but started feeling like I was going to get sick. So I had to sit down and cool off. I think I was just "over heating" or something. After the ride home the shower was AMAZING!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat? Long runs on a hilly race at a faster pace?

Event comments:

Always a good race. This year seemed much more packed in the celebration area?? It was impossible to get through anywhere at all. Will do it again and try to improve.

Course: Semi hilly up until around mile 7ish. Which is shown in my race lap times. It was those hills that killed me at the end. After mile 11.5 or so its pretty much down hill. Obviously I couldn't produce good times during then.

Damn that is a bright shirt!

Yeah, it looks like you were working hard coming down Eutaw there.  Keep at it and you'll break 2 no problem!

Nice job pushing through the heat and the hills.  Run that 216 - Maple Lawn loop I gave you and you'll get some practice on a few hills. You can make it more challenging by running through some of the neighborhoods off 216.

First I would like my "coach" to make me a small training plan to do for the next 2-3 months maybe!?

Nice job, man!  That shirt definately was a "bright" one!   But good for friends family to see you.

I hear you on the pace drop off.  I have the same problem frequently.   Have you tried some speed sets?   That should help your body adapt to holding pace and then you just get there.  It definately helped me in the past, and I'm starting them again.!

Congrats on a great race!
