Pre-race routine:

Went to a birthday party on Friday night and got in about 10:30. Got to bed about 11p, up at 4:15 and out at 4:45 headed to Huntersville, NC! Got to the race site about 6:40, picked up packet, set up transition, body mark. Ate Nutri-Grain bar at 7:15 and drank some Gatorade.
Event warmup:

Went for a very cold spin and run about 7:45 and headed to the pool about 7:55 for a short swim.
Swim
  • 03m 56s
  • 250 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Passed 5 people! I was disappointed to be starting at 100 but it was all good. I didn't have any trouble passing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Very cold! The wind was blowing and it was chilly-willy! I had to put on sleeves and that added an extra :20 or so.
Bike
  • 32m 20s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.56 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike continues to be my weakest link. I felt like I was working pretty hard just to keep the pace going. I need to continue to work on improving on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

More training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

As soon as I racked the bike and got my bike shoes off, my left calf cramped like never before! I was totally caught off guard since I typically don't have to deal with cramps. I started to head out of transition and had to stop to stretch it out. THAT was very painful.
What would you do differently?:

????
Run
  • 23m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I am a bit disappointed with this 5K time since I've been working most on improving my run this season. The cramp in the calf certainly didn't help any but it all worked out O.K. I was shooting for a 22:30 or better. I was happy to see Bobby Paton several times!
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched the calf and headed for the massage table.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

COLD!

Event comments:

What a great event for a great cause! Benji and SetUp did an awesome job on this race!
