Swim
  • 09m 16s
  • 250 yards
  • 03m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

swallowed a lot of water. Need to get used to swimming so close to others. Also need to learn to pass.
What would you do differently?:

Pass people who are right in front of me. I held back out of fear I wouldn't be able to maintain the pace. Need to develop more confidence.
Transition 1
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

The transition went really quickly. I was surprised.
Bike
  • 45m 50s
  • 9 miles
  • 11.78 mile/hr
Comments:

Considering I did this on an all-steel frame mountain bike, I am pretty happy with my speed. I did feel there were moment when I could have pushed a little harder. But I held back a bit because I didn't know the course and everyone had warned me about a long hill on the back part. I handled that hill with no problem. I am proud of myself.
What would you do differently?:

Get a tri bike. One day...
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Forgot how to rack the bike for a second. Forgot to take off my helmet and had to turn back. But it still went pretty quickly. Better than I thought.
What would you do differently?:

Mentally rehearse the transition as I am finishing the bike course.
Run
  • 23m 16s
  • 2 miles
  • 11m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran the whole thing. Took the first part nice and easy then started pushing toward the end. I am so happy that I'm under 12 min miles. I still can't believe it. And it is manageable. The pace is not too hard for me. Next goal 11 min miles!!!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing for this race. I paced myself just right. Next time I hope to be faster but I'll have to get there in training.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor swim. I could have done better. I should have passed people. But it was my first tri and I literally just learned to swim. So I am pretty happy with this performance and very proud of myself for taking this on.

I thought I would be dead last. I wasn't. Not by a long shot.

You go girl!  I am so proud and I don't even know you personally   I am glad you had a positive experience and hope to be reading many more race reports in the future.  As a suggestion, look up the Riverwood Sprint for a summer sprint.  It is a great local race that I think you would enjoy. Lots of BTers do it.  It is a tad longer with a harder run, but you can do it. YOU'RE A TRIATHLETE NOW!!!!!!
