Total Time = 3h 06m 54s
Overall Rank = 100/170
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 13/19
Pre-race routine:

Woke up really early and had a couple packets of raisin oatmeal. Drove about an hour out to the course and got my things together in the dark. There was hardly any light at all. Note to self, next time bring head-light.
Event warmup:

Had a redbull & walked around the transition are and talked to some folks. Waited until about 15 minutes before the race started to put on my wetsuit.
Swim
  • 35m 54s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 23s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster. I can do that by actually putting in some time before a competition.
Transition 1
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

I felt like I was going to puke in transition. That is the first time that has ever happened to me though.
What would you do differently?:

I could have gone alot faster but I had to slow down to keep from throwing up.
Bike
  • 1h 28m 37s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 17.67 mile/hr
Comments:

I never really got my legs back after the swim. I got a really bad cramp in my left calf right before the first big hill. I've never had my leg lock up on my like that before. I popped a gel shot and some chews and it kicked in in about 10 -15 minutes. I gotta say though that it was pretty painful. I did ok on the rest of the course but my legs were just not there. I got stuck on the last leg as people were bunching up and could not pass.
What would you do differently?:

Take electrolyte supplememnts.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

T2 is always fast.
Run
  • 58m 52s
  • 5.9 miles
  • 09m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran pretty slowly.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked over to the porta johns (which were all pretty gross and out of paper).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cramps & bad swim course.

Event comments:

There was not reallly alot of organization throughout the race. From the the swim course bouys to the run. I think in general it was just poorly organized. People were driving on the run course and walking/standing, walking their dogs etc. while there were still racers on the course. I don't think I'll do this one next year.

Course: The swim course was horrible. The course was not marked very well at all. There were 4 or 5 tiny buouys. People were swimming everywhere and I am certain that quite a few folks cheated on the swim course quite badly. There was 1 kayak and 2 boats, I'm not sure how this race was to be officiated but it's hard to officiate without officials.

Course: This course was tough, it was very hilly to say the least. I think I got a penalty here for drafting, although I was just trying to pass and could not. I had to keep dropping back and sprinting up to pass. The riders in front of me would not yield any and the traffic was pretty thick so it took a long time to pass.
