I went to the NCTS banquet this evening. Bill Scott made a bunch of announcements about upcoming changes for next year. Here's what I remember:

There are going to be two White Lake weekends. Both will be like the current weekend, with a half on saturday and a sprint on sunday. I think he said these were going to be on the first and second weekends of May. The race cap will be lowered to prevent congestion on the course.

The run course for the White lake half will be changed to one loop around the lake, rather than a two loop course.

Duke half is moving two weeks forward, so it will occur at the end of September. I think he said this is to avoid heat like we had this year (UGH!).

Pinehurst will also be moved forward, so that there will be two weeks between Duke and PH. Pinehurst is also having the bike course changed to help prevent congestion on the course, and the run for pinehurst is going to be reversed (can't remember why).

Triangle is moving to a new location, TBD.

They are getting rid of JF Hurley.

Lake Norman will be split into two days, the way Latta is. Open and AG on one day, and Novice and Relays on another. He might have said race caps will be lowered also (sorry, I'm over 40!)

OLY and HIM will be weighted more heavily than sprints for series points.

They are going to add a race somewhere out near Charlotte. I was only half listening to that so I can't remember the name of the lake.

The banquet was fun, free food, and of course triathletes are always a fun crowd. I didn't win the Kestrel bike, tho, or any of the other zillion prizes they handed out. Man, I would have liked that box of 100 Hammer gels! I guess I used up my lottery karma by winning that BT bike :-)

Wow!  Back-to-back White Lake weekends.  Very interesting.  I wonder how they'll be divided.  AG and Novice like Latta?  How about men and women?   I guess we'll find out.

I hope the new Charlotte race is Oly distance, we have enough sprints around here.

I just now chatted with the guy that I sat with at the banquet. He remembered that White Lake was going to be two identical weekends, just to serve more people, and also to allow more people to do both HIM and Sprint distance, without having to do them on consecutive days. He also remembered that the new race will be at Lake Wiley, but he couldn't remember the distance.

PS: they are going to start recycling at race sites.

Thanks for the info. Changing the location of Triangle is awesome. Maybe Falls Lake?

Talked to another friend that attended the Charlotte banquet, he said the new Charlotte race will be a sprint distance.   I guess sprints are easier to produce and sell-out quicker than olys.  Oh well...I could hope.

I hope Nuthouse is right, Falls Lake would be a great venue for the Triangle race!

I remembered something else about the Lake Wiley race. That lake has a water slide, and Bill Scott took a poll on who would like to see the race as a time trial start, where athletes go down the slide one by one. People overwhelmingly voted for the slide. Sounds fun.

Is this going to be a single race over two weekends or two distinct races?  That's kinda odd, but maybe it means I can improve my placing.

The run change rocks.  I don't care much for that run as it is and running around the race should provide for more shelter from the sun & wind as well as a visual break.

These changes generally sound positive all the way around.  With LKN they should be able to allow more people to participate while reducing the congestion on the bike course.  Win/win as I see it.

I agree that an oly near Charlotte would be so nice.

Just out of curiosity, when will the 09 schedule be released?  I understand that some races (MAP, for example) sell out on 1/1 each year.  Are all races released at one time?

Just looking forward to next year.

Thanks

The schedule will be up on Setupevents.com by December 1st. Registration will be staggered by race with the first day being January 2nd and more races opening up each day for three or four days. Thats the way it was last year and seems, by the explanation on the website, is what they will do again.

I would definitely sign up for the water slide. It sounds fun.
Thanks for the update.

Where are you stuck? I see you are doing NC races this coming season. Good luck in your journey to pro! I wish I was young enough to give that a tri...
