Not completely true. Going and staying on a low carb diet will force, or "train," your body to use ketones for fuel. I've tried to do endurance training while on a low carb diet and it's no fun at all. Not even a little fun.

But you are not really training it to use fat for fuel.

You are giving it no other option by cutting off or diminishing it's primary fuel source.  It has no other CHOICE than to start using fat.

As soon as you introduce carbs back into your diet, it goes right back to using them as the primary fuel source.  And as you mentioned, trying to be on a low carb diet and trying to do endurance sports just doesn't mix.
