Total Time = 5h 04m 56s
Overall Rank = /

Age Group Rank = 9/62
Swim
  • 39m 47s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Went out slighty too hard. Didn't settle in until 60% of the way through. Swim felt long.....

Navigation was really tough going into the rising sun. Everyone went left (including me) and had to come back out to get to the turning bouy.
What would you do differently?:

Trust my sense of direction.
Transition 1
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

Wetsuit stripper was great. My full wetsuit is really tight on the ankles, but no problem.
Bike
  • 2h 29m 44s
  • 56 miles
  • 22.44 mile/hr
Comments:

I managed HR very well. I let it drift up when climbing, but stayed around 145 otherwise. Great pace for this HR, for me.

Very pleased with this split.
What would you do differently?:

Not a thing
Transition 2
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

Put on socks since it was a 1/2 Mary.

Coming out of T2, I though under 5:00 for the race was a possibility.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure where I lost time, but definitely not my best.
Run
  • 1h 51m 9s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt better than the time shows. I felt like my 1:45 goal time was very doable. About mile 9 I figured out it wasn't going to happen...not because I felt poorly, I just wasn't going as fast as it felt. I also realized that the sub-5:00 was out.
What would you do differently?:

I think I paid the price a little for my fast bike split.
Post race
Warm down:

Slip & Slide, walk, water, walk, pretzels, walk, orange icy thingy (yum...hit the spot). After about 90 min, ate rice and chicken meal.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

#1- Swimming
#2- Running (early in my learning curve, so I know there are improvements to be had)
#3- Transitions, normally a strength, but they were weak this race

Event comments:

Tough to be disappointed with a 25min improvement over my 1st half (Vineman with a knee injury), but I still need to work on my swimming and running. I felt very good running off the bike, so that is a good sign.

Great race yesterday, you still had a nice strong run even if you didn't get under 5 hours.

Still a nice race and the bike wears you down more than you know when loaded with U-turns!  Great approx 5 hr finish!

Awesome job Scott! That bike split is smokin'...glad to see the back/knee pain you experienced a few weeks ago did not limit you. Fantastic job on this race. Sub-5hrs next time, definitely...What is a "wet suit stripper"?
