Total Time = 3h 44m 5s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 35-39 F
Age Group Rank = 37/55
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4 and had oatmeal and coffee before I hit the road.
Event warmup:

Goofing around with cool kids and BTers. I get just a leetle nervous that results in me being a leetle silly. ;>) I am just thankful I didn't bust out any of my really embarrassing dance moves.
Swim
  • 28m 41s
  • 1000 meters
  • 02m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was so much more confident going into this swim then previous races that I was disappointed with the outcome. My last few swims at Saguaro lake had gone great for me so I was hoping to swim the whole thing. Instead I started too far up...ok on the front line and regretted it. I didn't know the 35-39 year old ladies had that kind of rarr in them. One minute we were all bobbing there chatting and then the horn goes off and it became a body slam slug fest. One lady grabbed my foot and raked it straight down with her fingernails that felt freshly sharpened for the day. I tried to stop a few times to let the crowd pass but it was taking too long to find space so I tried to make the best of it. When we rounded the first buoy I started to feel better and ended up swimming on top of a lady that was backstroking. I told her I was sorry and she starting making some grunts like she was in labor. :>O Then I tried to calm her by telling her that we were almost half way there and she started letting out these really loud gasps like that was too far. Eeks.

I finally found my swim groove after the second buoy. I checked my watch and was a little bummed as I swam slower then Tempe International but it turned out ok. :>)
What would you do differently?:

Not start so close to the front. :>P I should probably learn how to swim with real strokes too.
Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

I took a minute to get the grass off of my feet but I never sat down so I was happy.
Bike
  • 1h 50m 10s
  • 31.41 miles
  • 17.11 mile/hr
Comments:

My goal was to maintain a 17 mph pace and to push the whole ride. I was happy with the ride. I averaged 16.5 at Tempe International so I am slowly but surely improving.
What would you do differently?:

Still building my speed. I will keep working on it.
Transition 2
  • 03m 27s
Comments:

I am kind of surprised I took so long here. LOL I even ran my bike back in so not sure what I was doing exactly.
Run
  • 1h 17m 25s
  • 6.63 miles
  • 11m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I am probably the most pleased with my run. My goal was to average 11:30 on the run. That is my goal for PFChang's so I thought if I could maintain that during this race that I would be happy. Most importantly I wanted to "run" and not feel like I was doing some type of death march like I did at Tempe International. I did walk/run but when I was running I felt strong and not over tired and tapped out. I felt really good. I averaged 13:16 at Tempe International so you can see what an improvement this was for me.
What would you do differently?:

I think weight loss is the best thing for me to improve my run. :>)
Post race
Warm down:

The slip n' slide made for a quick cool down. :>) Found my family and a few other friends. Drank water and enjoyed watching the rest of the cool kids and BTers finish. Everyone looked great out there!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I really think I raced right on my game for where I am with my training. I have to just keep on keeping on and it's what I intend to do!

I really appreciate all the cheers and support on the course. Tanya loaned me her Club tri top and I was so thankful to have cheers from people that didn't even know me but know the club. I think I said this last time but I am so thankful to have found a group of friends to train with that are so supportive. :>)

Event comments:

I loved the race! I felt it was well organized and tons of fun!

Awesome job out there. You improved in every way, definitely can't complain about that. I can't wait to see your really embarrassing dance moves if those were your non-embarrassing ones pre-race!

Lisa is a Quarterwoman. Yeah how does that sound. Your run time was better than mine. It's a good thing I decided to run at the end or you would have passed me. Here is a little nugget fgr you. I was talking to Tanya on Sat saying how great and confident you looked. It showed on Sunday. Great.

I love you.

Oh yeah, this is about racing. YOU DID GOOD GIRL!!! Look at you making all of your goals (the swim doesn't count you know? ) STILL you rocked it. I knew you would be ON FIRE when I saw you dancing and warming up with the Robot. Your new blog title should be (from Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman) "I got moves you've never seen." (in more ways than one right?) Watch out El Tour and Changs here comes JAVAMAMA!!

Great race! Ive found that it is hard to compare times from other races becuase the distances are not always accurate. You did great and have shown great improvement, thats what matters, and to enjoy which you obviously did!
